It seems our Fifth Harmony queen, Normani, got her fucking ass up and worked a little too hard ahead of the June 30 BET Awards. The show featured performances by icons like Megan Thee Stallion, Ice Spice, and GloRilla, (who all went off) but the “Candy Paint” singer was noticeably absent from the lineup. She was set to perform at the show, which took place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, but didn’t even make an appearance after there was rough rehearsal incident. It was tragic, because if you’ve ever seen clips of her performing or attended one of her shows, you know Normani performances are fucking insane. Not to mention, this woman’s dedicated fanbase waited six years for her debut album and performances of new tracks. (Normani finally released the project, DOPAMINE, on June 14.)
Half an hour before the show started, she let her followers know that she would have to skip it this year and expressed her frustration. So, why wasn’t Normani at the 2024 BET awards? What happened to her? I’m spilling the Normani x BET tea.
Why Wasn’t Normani At The BET Awards?
Why Did Normani Cancel Her BET Awards Performance?
Normani girl bossed too close to the sun in rehearsals for the BET Awards and got seriously hurt before the big event. “I am more frustrated and disappointed than anyone believe me,” she said in an Insta Story update just before the show started. “I had a really bad accident and injured myself. I am normally good for powering through under any circumstance but unfortunately due to my doctor’s orders, I am just not able to make this performance happen.”
The X Factor alum shared that she “desperately” wanted to give us her all, but explained that performing would’ve made her injury worse. “I am devastated and hate feeling like a disappointment to you but I have to focus on recovering at this time,” she continued. “There is nothing more that I wanted to do than perform for you and also, get back to doing what fulfills me most — BEING ON STAGE.” Sing it with me: You ain’t gotta go to work, work, work, work, work, work work, we can work from hoooome. Whoooaa.
She thanked for fans for their understanding and sent her love and support to the other performers. “I’m sorrrrrrrry guys and love you so much,” Normani concluded her lengthy caption.
What Is Normani’s Injury?
Although she didn’t detail exactly what happened, Normani shared an Insta Story photo of herself walking on crutches and sporting a bandage around her right knee. There also seems to be a boot on her right foot. I just know when her accident happened, she said: “This is gonna ruin the tour. The world tour.” No, but seriously, I would like an update on the DOPAMINE tour ASAP.
