Umm, ‘Euphoria’ Season 3 Is Officially Happening! Like 20 Years Later

Not sure how I feel about this, TBH.

The rumors that everyone’s favorite traumatizing show, Euphoria, has been canceled are NOT true! Yes, the actors who play teenagers are all approaching 30 at this point, but they’re ready to head back to set to film more episodes that will emotionally scar us for life. Over the years, Euphoria has given us so many iconic lines to quote (i.e. “Is this fucking play about us?”), and I could always use more. Plus, we can all agree that Zendaya can never have enough Emmys. Howeverrrr, the break between seasons feels a little too long and I’m not really a fan of the controversial show creator, Sam Levinson. Sooo, mixed feelings!

The new season has been delayed for a while due to the pandemic, the industry strikes, and the tragic death of the beloved Angus Cloud, who played Fez in the series. With everything that’s happened, fans have been wondering whether or not the show will return at all. I was preparing myself for no more Euphoria, but it appears the Max hit is officially making a return about three years after season 2 ended. Here’s everything we know about Euphoria season 3 so far.

Euphoria Season 3: Cancelation Rumors, Plot, Filming Schedule, Release Date

There Was A Rumor That Euphoria Was Canceled

World of Reel decided to freak us all out and report that the new season had been scrapped. They claimed that although production was set to resume over the summer, that just didn’t work out, so the stars moved on to other projects. Well… don’t believe everything you read. Fortunately, that report was totally incorrect.

Has Euphoria Season 3 Started Filming?

On November 12, HBOI/Max boss Casey Bloys confirmed to reporters at an HBO/Max press event that season 3 is a go. “We are shooting Euphoria,” he said. “I think we have a start date, mid to late January. Nothing’s changed. Somebody said something online, and then this whole thing [cancelation rumors] started. We are shooting the season. I have read the scripts. We’re happy. We’re moving ahead. All of the actors.”

Back in March, a Max spokesperson told Variety: “HBO and Sam Levinson remain committed to making an exceptional third season. In the interim, we are allowing our in-demand cast to pursue other opportunities.” Did we really need to give Sydney Sweeney the opportunity to do Madame Web and Anyone But You? I’m not convinced. But thank god Zendaya gave us Challengers.

When Does Euphoria Season 3 Come Out?

If they’re filming at the beginning of 2025, it seems likely we’ll get season 3 later that year, but there’s no confirmed release date yet.

In August 2023, the series creator revealed that season 3 will “explore what it means to be an individual with principles in a corrupt world.” He noted that it will be told from the perspective of Zendaya’s character, Rue. I mean… sounds about right.

In October, Zendaya revealed that there will be a time jump, so we can all breathe a sigh of relief. “I don’t quite know exactly what the season is going to look like, but I do know that the time jump is happening,” she said on The Awardist podcast. “It will be fascinating to see and understand these characters outside of the context of high school and how all the stuff that we saw when they were kids and they were in high school affects the adulthood they have and who they become in a much bigger world.”
