Between Miley Cyrus’ catalogue of bangerz, Noah Cyrus’ hauntingly gorge sad songs, Billy Ray’s achy breaky heart, and Tish and Brandi Cyrus’ ability to make me guffaw, the Cyrus crew really is one of the most talented families out there. Although they’ve collaborated on several occasions (Hannah Montana made me who I am) and bonded over their shared passions, there’s also been a lot of tension between certain members. Over the years, some of them have spilled drops of family tea in interviews, speeches, and on social media.
If we’re being honest, one sibling becoming a massive child star is a recipe for disaster for the other siblings’ mental health. Not to mention, Tish and Billy Ray had an emotional divorce in 2022, and their kids seem to have subtly chosen sides. Basically, there’s conflict between the parents, between siblings, and between different siblings and parents. If you’re struggling to keep track of all the Cyrus family drama, I don’t blame you. Fortunately, I’ve been studying it carefully for a while — here’s a full breakdown.
Tish Had A “Psychological Breakdown” After Her Divorce From Billy Ray
Billy Ray and Tish almost divorced multiple times during the last 10 years of their 30-year marriage, and they finally officially split in 2022.
When Tish appeared on Call Her Daddy, she got real about the divorce and shared that she stayed in the marriage so long because she had a “fear of being alone.” She told host Alex Cooper, “I was alone during that time, I had to go through it alone, and I literally can’t believe I did that… And I had one month of a complete psychological breakdown. It was the worst thing, it was not good.” Tish also said that she was basically a “single parent” during the Hannah Montana years. As a Tish stan, I’m just happy she’s happy now.
There’s An Alleged Noah-Tish-Dominic Love Triangle

Okay, this one seems super fishy to me, but ya never know. There’s a rumor that when Tish began pursuing her current husband, Dominic Purcell, Noah was dating him. Um. Huh?? An Us Weekly insider claimed that Tish “was aware” of the situation. “The turmoil between Noah and Tish goes far beyond [what people think],” they said. “Noah is very distraught over Tish stealing Dominic from her.”
That realllly does not sound like Tish, but it’s notable that Noah did not attend her wedding. While Tish and Dominic exchanged vows, the Noah was hanging out by a Walmart with her brother, Braison Cyrus. She was wearing a Billy Ray top. Hmmmm. A statement?
Miley Seems To Have Beef With Billy Ray
Something tells me Billy Ray did not have Miley’s blessing when he proposed to Australian singer Firerose. (For the record, she is basically Miley’s age.) While the “We Can’t Stop” singer publicly supported Tish’s relationship with Dominic Purcell and attended their wedding, she’s stayed pretty quiet about her father’s new marriage.
Miley’s Grammy speech was also telling. When she won Record of the Year for “Flowers,” she thanked several family members… but not Billy Ray. She listed Tom, Tyler, Michael, and Greg from her team and then shouted out “my mommy, my sister, my love, my main gays because look how good I look.” It’s well-documented that she’s close with Brandi these days, so it’s safe to assume Noah was the sister left out.
Noah Isn’t Always A Fan Of Miley

Although Noah is technically a nepo baby (my favorite one, in fact), things haven’t always been easy for her. During an interview with TMRW magazine, she got real about being called “Hannah Montana’s sister” all the time. “Somebody not even coming up to you and calling you by your name? That’s going to really fuck you up as a kid,” she said. “Make you feel, like, you don’t fucking even matter to the population — for them to not even know your name.” I know your name, queen! Crying to “July” is my favorite sport.
When Miley made the ~interesting choice~ to appear on Joe Rogan’s podcast in 2020, she opened up about Noah and their relationship. Miley called her sister’s project, The End of Everything, “the most depressing EP you’ll ever listen to,” adding, “She’s an emo kid.”
“She has a song where she says, ‘My sister’s like sunshine, it’ll follow her wherever she goes. But I’m more like a rain cloud,'” Miley said on the pod, referencing Noah’s bop, “Young and Sad.” She explained that she and her sister “go to the doctor a lot” to deal with their mental health issues. Three years after that interview — right around the time Tish got remarried — Noah left an *opinionated* comment on a TikTok video featuring that clip of the interview. She wrote, “The disrespect in this video.” Oof.
