The reviews are in, the Twitter battles are in full swing, and the unbothered Swifties are busy streaming The Tortured Poets Department on repeat. A trillion people have shared their strong opinions on Taylor’s newest album at this point, but I’m most concerned with the reaction of a certain Kansas City Chiefs tight end. My favorite football player (out of the three I know), Travis Kelce. Do we think he exclaimed his signature “Alright, now!” after his pop icon girlfriend played him the TTPD tracks? Do we think he knows what “alchemy” means? Not to mention, how does our football guy feel about a one-month Matty Healy situationship making Taylor Swift’s heart “explode”? Surely, that has to be a touchy subject.
These are all crucial journalistic questions to ask as we absorb the 31 TTPD tunes that continue to ruin me. It’s a dark time for Swifties, who are consuming an unhealthy amount of heartbreak, depression, and toxic man-focused music. We need to remind ourselves that Taylor is actually thriving right now and happily in love with her NFL star — who inspired two of her new songs. So, what is Travis’ reaction to Tortured Poets? I did some research.
What Has Travis Kelce Said About The Tortured Poets Department?
Naturally, Travis was one of the first people to hear the album. Back in February, he teased us with a rave review. “I have heard some of it,” he said during a Super Bowl press evening in Las Vegas. The athlete added, “It is unbelievable. I can’t wait for her to shake up the world when it finally drops.” It’s safe to say the world is thoroughly shaken.
Travis is already looking forward to supporting Taylor when she hits the road again for the Eras Tour. While chatting with Entertainment Tonight, he confirmed that he’ll be at some of the Europe shows. “Oh, you know I gotta go support,” he said. “You know it.” Clearly, The Guy On The Chiefs is excited to see the new tunes performed live. He doesn’t seem too bothered by the Matty and Joe of it all.
Which TTPD Songs Are About Travis Kelce?
Fans have decided that two TTPD tracks — “The Alchemy” and “So High School” — were inspired by Travis. To be fair, Taylor made her muse for these songs pretty obvious. “The Alchemy” is packed with football references like “So when I touchdown, call the amateurs and cut them from the team / Ditch the clowns, get the crown / Baby I’m the one to beat.”
And of course, lots of people have commented on how “high school” Tayvis feels. The athlete and the singer falling in love… it’s a tale as old as High School Musical. The most tortured poetry on this whole album is definitely: “Truth, dare, spin bottles / You know how to ball, I know Aristotle / Brand-new, full throttle / Touch me while your bros play Grand Theft Auto.” What I would give to see Travis’ face when he heard that part.
