Thanks to Sabrina Carpenter, my new favorite genre is “ovulation” music. Side effects include being a moody bitch, a heightening of my senses, and — of course — an increased sex drive. My fave five-foot singer posted on Instagram on Tuesday with the caption “4 days of ovulation album” to describe Short N’ Sweet, the 12-track album that dropped last Friday. From the sapphic “Taste” music video to “Please, Please, Please,” Sabrina never misses a chance to be cheeky and flirtatious through her music. Pitchfork called her a “Gen Z Betty Boop,” and I died at the accuracy. We love a renewed sex symbol without all of the toxic patriarchy attached.
So, wtf did Sabrina mean when she called “Short N’ Sweet” an ovulation album?

When Sabrina Carpenter posted behind-the-scenes shots of her working on “Short N’ Sweet,” it should come as no surprise that her caption held a witty reference to the horny nature of the album: “4 days of ovulation album.” Immediately, I had to know if Sabrina had written the album while ovulating. Did it only take four days in a recording studio to knock out the whole album with only the sweet calls of a vibrator (or Irish boy) at home to keep her motivated?!
Followers flocked to the comments to agree with the sentiment. “You dropped this album while I was ovulating, and I thank you,” wrote one. “Ovulation phase is the best description of this album,” said another. And my personal fave: “When we get the luteal phase edition of the album for the deluxe.”
It should come as no surprise that fans could relate to the album lyrics (or at least in their fantasies). I mean, “Can’t help myself, hormonеs are high/ Give me more than just some butterflies” should be the poster ad for ovulation.
Why Does Ovulating Make You Horny?
For those who missed out on sex ed growing up (with the American education system, it’s not too surprising), ovulating comes with a myriad of symptoms, one of which — you guessed it — is being hella horny. Ovulation is a process driven by reproductive hormones. Some people experience an increased libido due to these hormonal changes. (Reproductive hormones = Increased desire for sexy time.)
The hormone estrogen can also contribute to heightened sensitivity in erogenous zones, which can lead to extra lubrication downstairs. Unfortunately, not every side effect is that sexy. Ovulation can also cause bloating and tender breasts.
So, how long does ovulation last? Typically, it can last around 24 hours. Hence, “4 days of ovulation” might actually mean Sabrina wrote this album over four months. Either way, we love to see a woman bringing her menstrual cycle into the convo about her sexy album.
