Practical gifts get a really bad rap, IMO. I mean, I count on getting a fresh set of gym socks every year in my stocking because my washing machine eats mine. I have a theory that we all complain about socks, underwear, and hair ties simply because they *appear* to be a gift without thought behind them. But, if you think about it, my family knows that if I don’t get socks every year, I’ll legit walk around with a toe popping out for months because I refuse to buy my own. It’s the unsexy shit and useful gifts (but think we don’t want) that we subconsciously wish we could put on our wish list without looking like a total free-loader.
