A very loud man once yelled, “Summer should be fun.” But why can’t pregnancy fashion be fun too? Summer House’s activated legend, Lindsay Hubbard, will soon be making sandwiches for two. She announced she’s having a baby girl, temporarily nicknamed her “Hubb cub.” The ever-growing small but mighty nation of Summer House stans has seen Lindsay through a lot of pivotal moments over the seasons, naturally including some memorable outfits. Namely, the reunion slay of all reunion slays, which is now especially iconic considering Lindsay later revealed she was harboring her exciting secret. To be exact, Lindsay told Betches she was “about eight weeks pregnant at the date the reunion was filmed.”
Summer House is a very no sleep, bus, club, another club, nother club environment, so it’s only natural the entire Bravoverse was curious how being pregnant may have changed Lindsay’s ability to hang with the cool kids and look just as good as she always has while doing it. Spoiler alert: Lindsay says “Pregnancy hasn’t slowed that down, honestly” because she’s “always been pretty quick at getting ready, for the most part.” She goes on to say, “If anything, I’m getting ready quicker, because I’ll just want to rest my body a little bit more.” It’s no secret Hubbhouse has never been one to play it safe. She told me:“ “If I could wear a onesie every day and get away with it, I would probably do that, but I have a show to film and a duty to show people that just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you have to just be in sweats all day. You can be comfortable and fashionable.” Betches was tickled baby girl pink (or should I say butter yellow?) to sit down with Lindsay Hubbard to discuss all things pregnancy style as the first Summer House roommate with a baby on board.
Lindsay Hubbard Pregnancy Style
Who is your biggest pregnancy style inspiration?
I think Rihanna kind of changed the game for everyone. Right? Rihanna gave all pregnant women permission to celebrate this beautiful moment and experience in our lives as moms-to-be.
I love that because you already answered one of my other questions about celebrity pregnancy icons. I’ve been thinking about famous pregnancy reveal looks, like Beyonce and Keke Palmer. You went with a very Jackie-O inspired sweater with a bow. How did you land on picking that for your pregnancy announcement?
I actually randomly bought it right before I found out I was pregnant, and was like, “Oh God.” It’s an Alice And Olivia jacket. I wanted something gender-neutral, but I also wanted the juxtaposition of chill casual jeans, because I’m just a jeans girl (when I was able to wear them). Something a little bit more elevated, but also gender-neutral and feminine.
Does your partner ever help you style your looks or help you get ready?
My boyfriend is cool with whatever I pick out for myself. He’s very much a guy’s guy. Even before I was pregnant and I was trying on dresses for Watch What Happens Live or something, I sat on the couch in front of him with my dress unzipped…and he’s like, “What is going on here?” I’m like, “Can you zip me up?” Whatever I wear is beautiful to him and he just lets me go.
That’s definitely the right answer for him. What’s your go-to, “I just need to put something on and be comfortable, it’s been a long day,” fit?
I’ve just been getting larger sizes in regular clothing. Jeans are extremely hard to fit. I think I started the summer as a size 24, and now I’m at a size 30 and I’m just like, “I give up.” But in June when I was in Nashville visiting my Nashville house, I went to a Target and was like, “You know what? I’m just going to spend an hour and get a bunch of maternity bras for the summer, as my boobs are getting progressively bigger.” I bought a bunch of bras at Target for the summer that are $15 each, and I was like, “Perfect. This is awesome.”
Let’s say you’re driving out to the Hamptons. What does that outfit look like?
Any type of baggy pants, and honestly, probably a crop top. Amanda, at one point this summer, was like, “Wow, you’re really leaning into the crop tops.” I’m like, “They’re getting more cropped as the summer goes on, I don’t know!”
Summer House is famous for its very elaborate costume parties. How have you been able to incorporate your bump in some of the themes?
I don’t want to give away the themes, but I will say that my bump is included and involved and incorporated in my costumes for the themed parties.
I’m glad to see everybody is celebrating you, and it seems like the vibe is very high around the pregnancy in the house.
I keep wondering and asking everyone, I’m like, “Is there a point in time where I should probably put my belly away, or do I just let it rock for the rest of this pregnancy?”
What do they think?
They’re like, “No, let it rock.”
Walk me through picking out your reunion dress.
I was between this dress and another dress, and ultimately I went with this reunion dress because it showed my midriff. I knew the date that the reunion would air on TV was about six weeks later. Rumors were already swirling that I was pregnant, and I just wanted to throw people off my scent. They actually wound up coming back because of the Traitors cast announcements, but…that reunion dress bought me a little bit of confusion among the general public.”
Let’s talk about the two-piece yellow set, the one you wore to a Kyle DJ moment.
It was August 10th, so it was, I think, the day before my birthday. Paige actually took those photos for me. A two-piece set [with] a top and a skirt is kind of my go-to Friday or Saturday day look. Shortly after that weekend, I wore [another] yellow two-piece set, and if you look, you can see I [had] popped again. [Before, my] belly is mostly on the bottom, and then [it] rounded out more up on the top.
What were some of your best hiding looks?
I mean, it was definitely difficult. A lot of oversized blazers and high-waisted pants, and then formal wear, I had to get a little bit more creative. I wore more ruffle dresses than I’ve ever worn before. I went to four different weddings before I announced. Andrea’s wedding in Italy — I wore this dress that maybe I wouldn’t normally wear. It had ruffles on it, and people were like, “This is not your style…vEw, you usually do it so well, and this time you didn’t.” In my mind, I’m just like, “Whatever, they’re about to find out I’m pregnant and take it all back.”
Do you feel like you’re gravitating towards yellow?
I have been, I don’t know why. Even today I’m wearing butter yellow. I feel like it represents this pregnancy but in a neutral way … It’s positive and it’s happy. A lot of my personality within this pregnancy, I’ve just been very giggly and happy. That’s not to say I don’t get activated every now and then, because I definitely [do], but I think yellow is a good representation of that.
