Pls Don't Eat Random Fruit On The Side Of The Road (*Cough, Cough* Alicia Silverstone)

We love a good nature walk (notice how I said walk and not hike) as much as the next person, but some things are better left untouched. Like random fruit growing on the side of the road, for instance. But apparently, not everyone got the memo that we should just keep our hands to ourselves — especially not our beloved Clueless queen, Alicia Silverstone.

In a move that had us all simultaneously clutching our green juices and Googling “poison control,” Alicia took to TikTok to share her latest adventure: eating a mystery fruit she found on the street. Yes, you read that right. The woman who taught us how to “roll with the homies” just casually plucked a random orange fruit from a bush and took a bite like it was a Trader Joe’s sample. Spoiler alert: it was not.

Now, before you get any ideas about joining the “forage anything and everything” club, let’s break down why this is a bad idea — starting with the fact that not all fruits are created equal. Alicia’s little snack could’ve been something straight out of Snow White’s playbook. Turns out, the mystery fruit might’ve been a Jerusalem cherry, which, surprise surprise, is known for being mildly poisonous. Because of course it is.

In her TikTok, Alicia asked her followers to help identify the fruit. And like the responsible internet sleuths they are, they quickly pointed out that this was not a fruit you’d want to just haphazardly toss into your mouth. According to plant experts (because yes, this situation required an expert), eating a couple of these bad boys might make you throw up — which isn’t exactly the detox anyone’s looking for.

And just to clarify, Alicia reassured everyone that she’s alive and well after her brush with the wild side. She even made a cheeky comment about not swallowing, which, while funny, doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in her future snack choices.

So, let’s take a lesson from this: If you don’t know what it is, maybe don’t put it in your mouth? Didn’t know we had to reiterate that to a literal 47-year-old but you know, here we are. Or, you know, stick to the organic aisle at Whole Foods. Alicia, we love you, but next time, let’s save the adventurous eating for the professionals — or at least the produce section.
