Netflix’s The Perfect Couple has only been out for a few days, so I guess it’s technically acceptable that you haven’t finished it yet. Some people are just more ambitious than others — I watched the limited series in roughly one sitting. What can I say? Nicole Kidman playing a rich, scorned wife in a murder mystery is always gonna keep me entertained; it’s a tried and true art form. The Perfect Couple is a particularly thrilling Nicole drama because they really make it seem like her character, Greer, was involved in the murder of Merritt and got a guy named Broderick to help her carry it out. But who is Broderick, you ask? Since I’m so ahead of you, I’ll help you out with a detailed breakdown of the character.
Who Is Broderick In The Perfect Couple?
Who Is Broderick?
Broderick is not a character in The Perfect Couple book, but in the limited series, he’s Greer’s estranged brother.
We start to hear his name a lot in episode 4 when Greer repeatedly ignores his calls and tells Abby she doesn’t know who he is. Tag seems to be the only one in the family who’s familiar with this guy, so at first, you wonder… Does Greer have a secret BF on the side? It’s not like Tag is at all loyal to her.
After all the calls to the Winburys’ mansion, Broderick shows up at Greer’s book launch and makes a scene, approaching the stage and calling her book a “load of shit.” He warns her to stop ignoring him, and she continues to pretend like she has no idea who he is. Greer awkwardly laughs off the situation and cracks a few jokes to the audience as she has him escorted out. “There we go — we’ve created our own drama,” she quips.
Why Do The Police Think Greer And Broderick Murdered Merritt?
When the police find out about Broderick’s calls to Greer, they investigate him and discover that he’s connected to a gang. They also learn that Greer sent him $300,000 before Merritt died… pretty fishy. Based on this information, the police assume that Greer hired Broderick to kill Merritt. (She does have the whole ~Merritt was pregnant with Tag’s baby~ motive.)
During the first part of her questioning, Greer won’t disclose Broderick’s identity or why she sent him all that money, which doesn’t help her case. She just keeps saying that he’s an “old associate” and she was helping him pay off a debt. Ultimately, Greer does tell the police that Broderick is her brother and that the money was to help him with a gambling debt.
After Greer and Broderick are released, she brings him home and introduces him to the fam. The situation inspires her to spill all her secrets, including the one about how she actually met Tag when she was working as an escort. Because why not traumatize the kids a little more?
