You’re either getting laid or you play with your Sims all day… and if you’re the latter you can now get the best (?) of both worlds and get your Sims laid by multiple people. Have no idea WTF I’m talking about? Well, The Sims 4 is shaking things up with their new expansion pack Lovestruck, which lets your Sim have multiple partners. Yup, your Sims can now be in polyamorous relationships! Now, if the next Sims update happens to be that you can be in polyamorous marriages, well, then The Sims will be more progressive than the U.S. (which isn’t particularly hard these days).
For those who are unfamiliar, “poly” meaning in relationships, or polyamory, is when people have more than one romantic or sexual partner at the same time. And no, it’s not “cheating.” All parties are aware of what’s going on. However, that doesn’t mean jealousy can’t happen — something that the creators of Sims is ready to take advantage of with new boundaries and jealousy settings. The extension pack will be available July 25 for $39.99 — just in time to celebrate National Orgasm Day with your favorite Sims. No judgement!
How Does The Sims 4 Romance Pack Work?
So, how does this polyamory thing work in the context of your Sims. Say hello to the “Romantic Boundaries” patch. This game-changing feature lets you control your Sims’ exclusivity settings, so you can now define how your Sims approach romantic relationships in terms of physical and emotional exclusivity. If only I could do this for boyfriends.
So EA is about to put out a pack the lets your sims have poly relationships….
I’m about to create storylines so fulfilling, so nasty, so indulgent. I’m gonna give (sim) me everything AND everyone she wants. It’s over bro— 💫Leah Not Leia💫 (@Babiiface16) July 2, 2024
According to the official Sims 4 blog, this boundaries system is going to let you also change how jealous your Sims feel in these relationships. Your Sims can date multiple people without it turning into a jealousy-fueled disaster. Or, if you’re a little drama-loving freak, you can turn their jealousy levels all the way up and watch as chaos ensues.
This polyamory feature isn’t just coming out of the blue — apparently it’s been a request from Sims players for literal years. Seriously guys, just go outside sometimes. Many die-hard fans created mods to let their Sims live the open love life of their dreams. Finally, the game is officially supporting this lifestyle, and we are here for it. Now your Sims can have the most chaotic and fun Challengers summer ever — with or without the drama of jealousy.
The Sims is actually pretty fucking great when it comes to being inclusive to all kinds of identities and sexualities. This update is just the latest in a series of steps The Sims 4 has taken to reflect the diversity of the real world. Remember back in 2022 when they introduced nonbinary pronouns? And in 2023, they added trans-affirming medical wearables like binders, top surgery scars, and shapewear. The updates were small but their impact was huge.
These inclusive changes are making The Sims 4 a safe haven for queer players who want to see themselves reflected in the game.
But now that you’ve got the info, it’s time to get your creative juices flowing. Whether you’re planning a messy queer polycule or just exploring the new romance-themed city Cuidad Enamorada that was released (where your Sims can become romance consultants and create dating profiles), there’s no limit to the stories you can create. Or, you know, you can just find someone IRL to date. But your choice.
