Don’t mind me, I’m just discovering another corner of the universe on TikTok — no big deal. In case you’ve been scrolling a little less than I have, let me be the first to inform you: TikTok can be a pretty witchy place. There’s everything from the drive-by tarot card readings advising you whether or not to text your ex and the astrology girlies weighing in on how to style everything from your apartment to your makeup based on your Zodiac sign. But the latest mystical movement on the app has me turning down the volume and listening with both ears.
You may have noticed creators talking about having the gift of clairaudience, AKA clairvoyance’s quieter, chiller cousin. What is clairaudience, and what are the signs of being clairaudient? Intuitive empaths, this one is for you.
What Is Clairaudience?

The word clairaudience literally means “clear hearing” and is considered one of the six psychic senses. A person who experiences clairaudience hears messages through sounds, musical tones, full-on songs, or even voices that other people don’t hear. The spiritually intuitive community understands those audio cues to be special guidance from another dimension or plane of existence. Is there any scientific evidence for this gift? Actually, yes!
According to the Berkeley Well-Being Institute, one of the basics principles of physics is that “all things in the world — even physical, material objects — are made up of vibrations” which give off a frequency that humans are sometimes able to hear within a certain register (like with an instrument tuned specifically for our ears). Still, physics teaches us that “there are sounds all around us that we don’t hear…but that doesn’t mean they are not there.” Those who believe they are clairaudient can tap into these unhearable frequencies to channel important messages from the universe about the world around us.

With clairaudience, people often hear a strong inner voice, like the inner narrator, that outlines thoughts in many people’s minds. Clairaudient experts have described the voice as calm and even-keeled (never mean or emotional, like the inner critic) when they hear short “Yoda-like” messages: yes, he’s the one, ask for the promotion, don’t trust her anymore.
Other creators on TikTok have described a more ambiguous sound experience where “ringing ears, CRAZY deja vu, vivid dreams, tingles, goosebumps, whispers, AND STILL DON’T KNOW WHAT IT IS UNTIL AFTER it happens or is actively happening” was their clairaudient moment.
For others, hearing a message as simple as a single name has proven to be powerful. One TikToker commented, “I just woke up one morning, and the very first thought that came to my mind was a name that I had seen on his profile. I mouthed her name and immediately knew. Intuition was spot on. Cheating.”

You may be more likely to experience clairaudience if you are deeply connected to music or have a job that deals with listening to and helping others. It’s also a good sign if you have a super active inner narrator who vocalizes your thoughts, especially if that narrator leads full-on back-and-forth conversations in your mind (yes, I’m a yapper, even with my own consciousness). Finally, being sensitive to sound in general and needing to recharge in silence, hearing ringing or buzzing in your ears, and often hearing someone calling your name only to find no one there could be a sign of super strength intuition. Are you the friend at dinner constantly saying, “Did you hear that?” when no one else did? It just might be your spiritual calling whispering in your ear, if the TikTok mystics are right.
(Common sense PSA: If you hear constant ringing in your ears or frightening, harmful voices, def chat with a doctor to make sure tinnitus or a psychological disorder isn’t the culprit.)
