Pick-Me Girl? Nah, Rory Gilmore Was Low-Key A Player

I know we all have some very *strong* emotions about Rory Gilmore. To put it nicely, she’s not our favorite. And while I can probably spend hours discussing how both her and her mother are emotional terrorists (and how Emily Gilmore is the superior Gilmore girl), I wanted to bring up an often overlooked aspect about Rory. We all know about her irritating know-it-all habits and pick-me tendencies, but what we might not realize is that under that annoying, high-strung girl is actually a player.

I know, I know: Rory doesn’t exactly fit the bill for what a typical player looks like — but that’s exactly what she’s most dangerous type there is. Sure she has a mousey personality and an inclination to books that make her seem like a nerd, but let’s not forget that she is the daughter of the emotional tornado Lorelai Gilmore and an absentee Christopher Hayden … and she’s worse off for it.

Don’t believe me? Here are all the concrete reasons why Rory Gilmore is the ultimate player.

She Always Had A Roster

A player is nothing without their options… and Rory had a lot of options all the time. It didn’t matter whether Rory was in a committed romantic relationship or not, she was entertaining multiple men at once in some capacity. When she had Dean, she’d flirt relentlessly with Tristan — who she ended up kissing. And then of course, she had eyes for Jess (who she also kissed!). She’d flirt with Marty and yet panic when he’d want something real with her. And then of course when she was with Logan, she still made Jess feel like she had feelings for him.

She Was A Serial Cheater

Players don’t just lead people on, they also cheat. And Rory Gilmore was a serial cheater. Let’s reminisce, shall we? She basically cheated on almost every boyfriend she had aside from Jess. She cheated on Dean with Jess, then she helped Dean cheat on Lyndsay (his wife BTW), she emotionally cheated on Logan with Jess, alluded to kissing an ex while her and Logan were on a break, and then of course we can’t forget that she cheated on Paul (her unmemorable boyfriend) with Logan in Gilmore Girls: A Year In The Life. Even almost 10 years later, Rory is the same ain’t-shit girl.

She Was The Queen Of Mixed Signals

You could get emotional whiplash getting involved with Rory. Most of the men she dated or was involved with were very confused about their relationship at some point, usually because of Rory. She gave Marty mixed signals and then ghosted him when she found Logan. She’d show interest in Jess and then suddenly act distant. Rory never knew what she wanted and she’d make it everyone else’s problem.

She Loved To Leave A Man Hanging

And of course, she could never truly commit. That’s probably why she grew tired of Dean, didn’t know how to make it work despite breaking up his marriage, and why she turned Logan’s proposal down after graduating college. Sure, I was kind of on her side for that last one, but who is she still sleeping with a decade later? That’s right, Logan.

I am all for women in male fields, but you can’t deny this girl was a player.
