For context, the talented ladies are friends from their “Anything You Can Do” collab on Babs’ Encore album, so fortunately for us, they follow each other on social media. When Melissa posted a cute photo the other day, her talented pal had a response that I plan on turning into artwork I can frame and hang on my wall.

The extremely tame drama started on Monday when Melissa posted a since-deleted pic of herself and director Adam Shankmanat at the Center Theatre Group’s CTG Gala event. The actress looked gorgeous as always and Babs took notice in the most 82-year-old woman way possible. The well-intentioned Funny Girl star wrote in the comments: “Give him my regards did you take Ozempic?” One for the pop culture history books. Naturally, the Comments By Celebs account posted Barbra’s iconic inquiry, and everyone on the internet was on the floor. I’ll admit I was giggling up a storm myself, but I also low-key felt kinda bad for both Melissa and Babs?

We can all breathe a sigh of relief. The girlies are not fighting! Babs swiftly issued the most adorable social media apology I’ve ever seen. “OMG,” the singer started. “I went on Instagram to see the photos we’d posted of the beautiful flowers I’d received for my birthday! Below them was a photo of my friend Melissa McCarthy who I sang with on my Encore album. She looked fantastic! I just wanted to pay her a compliment. I forgot the world is reading!” That last sentence is my new go-to response every time I post something unhinged.
The day after the comment heard ’round the world, Melissa also responded, posting a hilarious Insta video of herself reading Barbra: Celebrating an Icon. “The takeaway, Barbra Streisand knows I exist,” Melissa said to the camera after lowering the magazine. “She reached out to me and she thought I looked good! I win the day.” So yeah, there’s not an ounce of Melissa/Babs beef, thank heavens!
