Someone getting sent home every week on Love Island is kind of like doing the dishes. It has to happen at the expense of one unlucky soul in your household, and no matter how ridiculously often the process repeats, it’s a real bummer every time. And yet, the internet (including myself) is uncharacteristically pissed that Jeremiah and Hannah were sent home last night with little warning.
To be honest, Hannah’s departure was going to happen at some point. She just didn’t strike me as a real contender in the race for “America’s Favorite Couple.” But Jeremiah?!? He was an OG, love him or hate him, whose debauchery in Casa Amor was already teed up to legendary. Like, I get it, Jeremiah wasn’t a total prince dealing with the Huda situation, showing that he certainly has some relationship flaws to work on — which is the exact point of sticking it out on Love Island! So why did Jeremiah get sent home from Love Island USA??? I need Ace and his minions in my office NEOW! I just want to talk.
Why did Jeremiah get sent home?
America voted for their favorite male and female Islanders, leaving Jeremiah, Pepe, and Austin with the fewest votes for the men (while Amayah, Hannah, and Iris were left vulnerable for the girls). The boys got together to vote for which least-liked dude Islander to dump, and for some reason (with Pepe standing right there), they chose their day one brother Jeremiah?!? Taylor said the group’s reasoning was, “looking at the bigger picture and seeing what America sees and seeing how this person has moved in here since they got in here” was enough cause to sack Jeremiah.
Why are fans mad about Jeremiah leaving Love Island?
Fans (it’s me, I’m fans) saw right through some of the guys (looking at you, Ace), low-key weird fixation with punishing Jeremiah, following Jeremiah and Huda’s bad romance. Sure, that situation was a hot mess, but why the boys have had a target on Jeremiah’s back for their perception of his doing the experience wrong ever since is kinda weirdo behavior. It had been days after Huda and Jeremiah’s explosive fighting finally settled down, and still Ace whispered how icked out he was that Jeremiah (checks notes) was already connecting and kissing a different hot girl... sorry, did he forget this was on Love Island, FFS?!
Why send home the one boy he’s proven he’s loveable AF and blame it on America?! Austin, bless his soul, had just announced he was way off Amaya, and he didn’t put in the work for Chelley and Pepe. It’s giving the other guys are big mad the man can pull harder than them! (And he doesn’t have to krump to do it.) Taylor dropping the “nothing is personal” bar to finish it all off is exactly what you say when you do some really personal shit, like booting the dude you’ve had green-eyed-jealousy-monster eyes for since day one.
Why did Hannah get sent home on Love Island?
Honestly, though I could take or leave Hannah, Chelley gave a subpar answer for sending her home. “Some of you guys explored no matter what the circumstances were,” but one of these sisters “really tried to put themselves out there” for the full Love Island experience. Chelley, Olandria, Huda, and (not so much) Cierra believed that person was Hannah, so they sent her home for…doing the show too well and
“being the light of this place”?!
Now, I’d totally understand if Hannah had already found her person, but Pepe was a clear placeholder for her. Hannah was also way closer to the entire group than Iris. I get it, Iris just arrived, but doesn’t that mean her bags are easier to repack? Consider me very confused, beloved.
Will Jeremiah return to Casa Amor?
Love Island Producers listen to me carefully: BRING JEREMIAH BACK FOR CASA AMOR!!! (Please.) His story is not over, and now that he got fucked over by his besties, a revenge arc has me geeked in anticipation. Honestly, picturing the carnage Hannah would unleash bring her sunshiney-ass back too. I’m sick!
