An 'Outer Banks' Season 3 Finale Recap To Prepare You For Your Season 4 Binge

Sometimes, when you’re trying to get to El Dorado, the mythical city of gold that’s supposedly in South America, chaos ensues. And that’s exactly what happened in the season 3 finale of Outer Banks… a whole lot of chaos! People fought, betrayed, died, kissed, and time jumped and appeared in the future, no big deal. Since the Pogues are coming back for season 4, it’s officially time to trade in my Adam Brody hyperfixation for my Chase Stokes hyperfixation. And it’s also time we refreshed our memories by reviewing the major plot points in the last episode of season 3. Let’s prepare ourselves for the new episodes together: Here’s a recap of the season 3 finale of Outer Banks.

‘Outer Banks’ Season 3 Finale Recap

What Happened To John B’s Dad?

Well, he is no longer with us, sadly. Basically, John B, Sarah, Pope, Cleo, and Ward, their sketchy stowaway, get to the Orinoco Basin and have a powwow about how they’re gonna rescue John B’s father. At first, there’s hope when John B and Sarah miraculously hear Big John and somehow save him from bad guy Singh and his cronies by using fireworks. But as we all could’ve predicted, Ward is a little untrustworthy bitch, and he’s communicating with Singh without the Pogues knowing. Singh then shows up to their location and there’s a whole shootout situation where Big John unfortunately gets hit by a stray bullet. He encourages John B and Sarah to keep going on their journey to El Dorado, and he ultimately dies from blood loss and doesn’t get to benefit at all from his incredible discovery. RIP, John B’s dad. (It’s also notable that Ward ends up sacrificing his life to kill Singh and his assistant and save the Pogues, so consider him redeemed.)

Are Pope And Cleo Together Now?

Finally! Thank heavens!! The Pogues are now just a group of couples, because Pope and Cleo evidently decided to quit their “No Love Club” and start up a romance. Although they had a ~rocky~ start, these two have really been there to support each other, and it’s clear that feelings have been growing between them. They share a sweet kiss in the finale, and I can’t wait to see where this goes in season 4.

The Time Jump, Explained

Toward the end of the finale, we see what’s going on 18 months in the future and discover that the Pogues safely succeeded on their mission and got rewarded for finding El Dorado, as they should. The town even has a party to celebrate them, and John B happily claims they’re living “normal” lives. But something tells me that normalcy isn’t gonna last too long! And that something would be the unidentified dude who approaches the Pogues with a captain’s log that used to belong to Blackbeard. Yup, there’s a new treasure hunt for Blackbeard’s ship around the corner, it seems.
