IDK about you but I’m really tired of feeling like I need to set a New Year’s goal that I’m legit never going to achieve. A.K.A. all the shit goals I’ve set in the past that make me feel like a failure because they are so time-dependent, restrictive, or simply out of my control (loling at that time I said I’d own a house by the end of 2023).
But, that doesn’t mean I want to ditch the whole, “New Year, New Me” attitude completely — I mean, what better opportunity to kind of start from scratch than literally starting the new year, new month, and new week ON A MONDAY. And yes, I know I’m a few days late to the party given it’s January 2nd and I’m still setting 2024 New Year’s Resolution but better late than never.

And this year, after listening to the NYE episode of the Diet Starts Tomorrow podcast, I decided my goals are really just an extension of what I already want for myself on an everyday basis… Because maybe we don’t need to change at all, maybe instead of becoming a completely “new you” it’s about enhancing the shit that you’re already doing. So, here’s a list of goals for 2024 that are *actually* achievable.
Goal: Get more steps in
Instead of tying yourself to a specific number of steps every day, how about we just try walking more…or, like, at all. Give yourself the tools to walk whenever you get a chance to — park further in the parking lot and don’t let shitty weather deter you (that’s why #cozycardio was invented). An indoor walking pad for multitasking and new kicks are always what get me moving.
Goal: Actually Floss
Is this everyone’s collective dirty little secret?? Why is this so hard? Also dental care is expensive, but flossing is cheap AF so let’s add that to our daily routine and make it fun. These flavored flosses give me the rush of nostalgia that makes me look forward to acting like I have my shit together (but don’t worry your gums do stop bleeding after it’s a routine).
Goal: Eat more vegetables (and fruit for that matter)
Instead of eating less this year, I’m taking the approach of eating more — adding fruits and veggies to my snacks so I’m not just having a stack of Pringles. Addition is the vibe, not subtraction. That said, you won’t catch me prepping snacks for more than 5 minutes which is where this veggie chopper comes in handy.
Goal: Find a meal that you don’t *hate* cooking
So, we’re eating more veggies, why not try to add a single meal into your repertoire? It can literally be as easy as a one-pot meal (mine was the viral feta pasta last year). All you need is a single good baking dish and everyone will start calling you Martha.
Goal: Listening when your body says it needs rest
I know it can feel next to impossible to slow down, but even just acknowledging that you’re tired instead of struggling to keep one eye open during your nightly reality show catch-up is a win. But, I’m personally declaring 2024 the year when naps become cool again, so get excited about sleeping with some cozy new sheets or blankets. I secretly love a weighted blanket because they make it harder for you to get up.
Goal: Make mornings generally less terrifying
Okay, so you might press snooze 4 times instead of 5, and you may never be a morning person, but it’s worth trying a new routine!!! Especially if it means you can retire the jump-scare that is your iPhone alarm clock. Invest in a sunrise alarm clock instead to make mornings just a little more peaceful.
Goal: Be more mindful of using all the stuff you have instead of immediately buying something new
This goal and getting organized pretty much go hand in hand — I’m going to try tackling one room a week to reorganize and clear the clutter so I can actually see what I have. (Though, I may save my closet for last because just thinking about it gives me anxiety). I can acknowledge that buying something new to organize an old space might be slightly counterintuitive, but TBH, these drawers are on sale and have become a lifesaver for kitchens and bathrooms!
Goal: Feel slightly more put together
Okay, so whoever said “look good, feel good” was clearly onto something but I’ve had such a hard time the last few year parting ways with my black-leggings-everyday look. So this year, I promised myself I’d look *slightly* more put together. What does that look like for me personally? Wearing matching PJ sets to bed (instead of my torn-up, high school lacrosse shorts) and swapping sweats for silky trousers.
Goal: Protect that skin!
Two things will help accomplish this: moisture & SPF. And, I’m not just talking about your face because we’re already using sunscreen there — it’s time to add your neck and hands into the routine as well. Here are Betches HQ favorites for both moisturizer and sunblock.
