I Tried Yankee Stadium’s Latest Viral Dessert — And It Lived Up To The Hype

I’m no stranger to eating snacks out of plastic helmets at ballparks. I’ve been known to absolutely destroy an ice cream mini helmet, and do not even get me started on a chicken finger bucket. As I continue my quest to find the best stadium chicken fingers in the country (always open to suggestions), I took a side quest this week to try Yankee Stadium’s latest viral dessert.

If you aren’t on the same “viral stadium snacks” side of TikTok as I am, allow me to introduce you to this season’s sensation: the tiramisu helmet. If you’re confused, that’s the classic Italian delight featuring lady fingers, espresso mascarpone cream, and cocoa powder layered inside a mini plastic souvenir helmet emblazoned with the Yankees’ iconic NY logo.

As the years go by, stadium food keeps getting wackier. And every year, there are a few standouts that take the internet by storm the same way Cronuts took New York City in the summer of 2013. From the Houston Astros’ footlong “Daddy Mac Dog” to the Toronto Blue Jays’ cotton candy fries, this year’s contenders range from intriguing to straight-up confusing.

But one ballpark snack rose above the rest this year, and the internet can’t stop buzzing about the creamy, fluffy delicacy being served up in the Bronx.

The tiramisu, which can exclusively be found at the concessions stand behind Section 125 at Yankee Stadium, will set you back $12.50 – and maybe I’m just jaded by years of living in NYC and attending sporting events, but IMO that’s a bargain for the experience. Before I even took my first bite, this helmet turned me into a concourse celebrity. I was stopped by not one, not two, but THREE different people who expressed their shock, awe, and jealousy that I’d managed to procure this season’s hottest snack item. The air of excitement around my freshly acquired tiramisu was palpable, and I’d be lying if I said I didn’t feel just a little bit better than everyone else as I took my seat, tiramisu in hand.

And the dessert itself? Everything I dreamed of and more. While the idea of tiramisu at a baseball game might be confusing to some, Chef Christian Petroni’s take on the classic dessert recently turned trendy did not disappoint. It was perfectly chilled, light, and fluffy and didn’t fall victim to the over-sogginess that sometimes befalls tiramisu. When all was said and done, you could have convinced me this dish was served to me at a fancy Italian restaurant, that is, until I almost got hit by a pop fly while I was soaking up the decadence.

So, step aside, semi-melted ice cream, tiramisu is the best thing to be put in a Yankees helmet since they put one on Aaron Judge’s head.
