If you are also an adult theatre kid who hasn’t recovered from Wicked fever over the holidays, then I have some good neeeeeews (and this time no one is dead). Wicked is coming to a TV screen near you, like the one in your living room, very soon and I’m tickled pink about it. Despite Cynthia Erivo’s overly generous offer, singing loudly to the Wicked movie is an activity that should stay within the privacy of your home and/or vehicle unless your name is Ariana, Cynthia, Idina, or Kristin. That’s why I’ve been impatiently waiting for Jon Chu’s musical masterpiece to exit theatres so I can run that shit back about a million times to get my harmonies just right. Yes, the soundtrack hits all by itself. But as an overly empathetic Cancer, I need on-demand access to Elphaba’s inner child interrupting “Defying Gravity” for legal reasons. Luckily, Universal has spilled the beans on when Wicked will be available to stream digitally for every fan who wishes they could’ve applied to Shiz.
Is Wicked available on streaming?
Wicked will be available to stream solely for rent or purchase on December 31, 2024. That means your New Year’s Eve plans are officially covered!
It feels extremely unlikely Part One will be available for free with streaming subscriptions until much closer to when For Good is released (in November 2025).
Where is Wicked streaming?
Wicked: Part One will first be available digitally on every major SVOD platform (think Amazon Prime, YouTube, Apple, Fandango at Home, your cable provider’s on demand offerings, etc.).
How To Watch Wicked Deleted Scenes And Extras
According to Universal’s press release, there are hours of bonus content including deleted scenes and special commentary when you purchase Wicked: Part One digitally or buy a hard copy. This includes commentary by director Jon Chu, commentary from stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo, and a sing-along version with lyrics at the bottom of the screen.
On top of that, the digital extras include a BTS look at the making of Shiz, the legacy of Wicked as a stage musical leading up to the Broadway icons’ cameo in the movie, and a “behind the curtain” de-masking of Jeff Goldblum’s character, The Wizard. Finally, there are 10 deleted scenes including Pfannee and ShenShen’s backstory, a confrontation between Elphaba and Boq, extra flirting between Fiyero and Elphaba, and, of course, an extended chase scene by the flying monkeys in the palace. The full list of scenes as detailed by NBC is here.
How much does it cost to rent Wicked?
You can expect Wicked to cost at least $19.99 to rent.
Is Wicked coming to Netflix?
Probably not ever, as Wicked is a movie made by Universal Studios, whose parent company also owns Peacock. If Wicked was to hit other streaming platforms, like Netflix or Hulu, it would be a very long time from now when the rights aren’t so hot.
When is Wicked coming out on DVD?
February 4, 2025, is the day physical media lovers can get their hands on a 4K Ultra HD copy of the film on DVD or Blu-ray.
