What Is Casa Amor? The 'Love Island' Twist That Shakes Everything Up Mid-Season

Well, Islanders, we’ve made it. We’re officially halfway through season 7 of Love Island: USA. Whether you feel like it’s been only minutes or whole millennia so far this season, I can guarantee one thing: it probably feels twice as long for the people actually in the villa. I mean, can you imagine being in person and bearing witness to Huda’s crash-out? Personally, I think it would take years off my life. Luckily, I can take it all in from the comfortable distance of a screen.

So, all the drama of this season is just ramping up even more now that we’re at the halfway point, and it’s time for everyone’s favorite mid-season game changer: Casa Amor. “I have been told there will be more twists and turns to Casa than ever before,” host Ariana Maddix said during Love Island USA: After Sun. “They are going to start it very differently, getting the girls out, something they’ve never done before. I feel like I say that a lot like we’ve never done it before, but then it’s always something crazy we’ve never done before.”

So, although we’ve seen Casa Amor before, it sounds like we’re in for more surprises for Love Island: USA season 7. Here’s what you need to know about Casa Amor on Love Island.

What is Casa Amor?

Casa Amor is when all the couples of Love Island get put to the “ultimate test” with brand new temptations. Of course, those temptations come in the form of new bombshells who join the show. The men and the women are separated, with one group staying in the villa and the other heading to the infamous Casa Amor itself. After about a week in their new set-ups, the whole cast reconvenes, and everyone has to decide if they want to stay in their old couples or try out some of the new connections formed during Casa Amor.

There’s a big risk that comes with re-coupling, namely that both members of the couple need to agree that they want to be together. So there have been instances in the past where one person tries to enter into a new couple, but the other person turns them down, so they end up single. Absolutely brutal. And, absolutely fabulous television.

Heading into Casa Amor, the couples are Chelley and Ace, Cierra and Nic, Olandria and Taylor, and Amaya and Austin. Huda, Andreina, Iris, and Pepe are all single. The new bombshell boys who joined the cast are Chris, Elan, JD, Bryan, Zak, and Zac. And the new bombshell girls are Vanna, Jaden, Clarke, Gracyn, and Coco. We’ll just have to wait and see how the couples survive (or don’t) after Casa Amor.
