Folks, we finally made it to the greatest day of the year: the MTV Video Music Awards!
This award show is known for being a truly chaotic experience — from Kanye interrupting Taylor Swift to Miley Cyrus twerking alongside giant teddy bears to Fifth Harmony brutally shading Camila Cabello, you just never know what’s about to happen. And for the most part, the performances do not disappoint… I’m still dreaming about Chappell Roan’s 2024 VMAs rendition of “Good Luck, Babe!” And Ariana Grande’s 2018 “God Is a Woman” performance lives in my mind rent-free.
This year, we were treated to performances by a variety of seasoned and new pop legends, including Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Tate McRae, and Mariah Carey. And, uh, TikToker Alex Warren was somehow also included in that lineup… no further comment, except #JusticeForAddisonRae.
While the VMAs are, of course, about the music and memorable moments, they’re also about epic fashion! And the girls (and a few boys) really did wow me with their fits this year. I take my judging-from-my-couch duties very seriously, so without further ado, I present: the best and worst dressed celebs at the 2025 VMAs.
The Best And Worst Dressed Celebs At The 2025 VMAs
Best — Sabrina Carpenter
WOW. This might be on of my favorite Sabrina looks of all time, and that’s saying a lot. This fierce red dress paired with a fluffy light purple boa is so perfect for the Man’s Best Friend era, and she should win a VMA just for that mug.
Worst — Ariana Grande
I love Ariana more than most people I know IRL, but this polka dot fit just isn’t doing my queen justice! And it’s too cutesy for the VMAs.
Best — Lady Gaga
Perfectly Gaga. Perfectly Mayhem. No notes.
Worst — Frankie Grande
Love you, king, but this black and yellow ~statement fit~ is sort of painful to look at. It’s giving bumblebee…
Best — Doja Cat
This was a lot to take in, but after letting it marinate, I think I’m actually a fan of the pastel minidress and butter yellow heels. And the ginormous lipstick clutch is kind of iconic. One thing about Doja? She never half-asses a look.
Worst — Conan Gray
I adore him and respect that he’s committed to the album theme, but there are a few too many ruffles here for me.
Best — Tate McRae
You can’t spell Tate without ate… My jaw’s on the floor. The pop queen looks ethereal in this dreamy, sheer white gown.
Worst — Tyla
She looks beautiful as always, but this mini tan dress (shirt?) is just not giving… much of anything.
Best — Olandria Carthen
Someone check on Nic ’cause I’m speechless. GOOD LORD. Red is her color, but also, every color is her color.
Worst — Megan Stalter
What’s happening here? I genuinely cannot tell.
Best — Summer Walker
Summer paid homage to Pamela Anderson’s 1999 VMAs look, and the recreation is a slay!
Worst — Chance The Rapper
Does he know this is the VMAs and not… your average day at high school? Why does he need a backpack?
Best — KATSEYE
This photo is actually next to “maximizing your joint slay” in the dictionary. Wow. We got pink satin, silver sparkles, suit dresses, bodysuits, etc… Where can I purchase every one of these fits?
Worst — Alix Earle
My girl, this is barely a step up from a T-shirt.
Best — Gabby Windey
YES, GABBY! The poet of our generation looks stunning in this sexy, sheer cutout dress.
Worst — Yungblud
Oh… To quote Sabrina Carpenter, “Go put on some clothes!”
Best — Nic Vansteenberghe
Best — Sombr
I love when a man puts some actual effort into an award show look! The up-and-coming indie pop singer’s looking sharp in his floral print-adorned suit and pointy shoes.
