While there’s a lot to unpack re: Sofia Richie’s lavish nuptials (like, for starters, those Octopusslover8 cameos), let me say this: We’ve found our new fave nepo baby. Lionel’s youngest has become an overnight “It” girl thanks to a Chanel-sponsored wedding set in the South of France and her appropriately timed TikTok debut. But here’s the thing: The newly minted Mrs. Grainge hasn’t always been the epitome of old money everyone on your FYP is droning on about now. Remember when Sofia was just a Keeping Up with the Kardashians sidekick and cosplaying as a 19-year-old step mom to Scott Disick’s three kids? Yeah, we didn’t forget either.
However, for those who have been paying attention, Richie has actually been rebranding her aesthetic for years. That hot pink sequin bodysuit we all remember from her 21st—which was *very* Khloé Kardashian-esque, we might add—feels like a 180 from the couture bride that’s turned TikTok upside down.
ICYMI (I genuinely don’t know how that would be possible but fine), let’s unpack the wedding weekend and Richie’s newfound status as a style icon.
Sofia Richie’s TikTok debut was a PR power move
Mere days ahead of the wedding, Sofia Richie joined TikTok with a “France GRWM” that just about broke the internet. The Nudestix beauty director, who’s already racked up a casual 700k followers BTW, shared her pre-nuptial festivities on the social media platform to an almost instant fandom. “This is the US royal wedding,” one user commented. “My fave unproblematic nepo baby,” another chimed in. Whether it was an intentional PR (power) move or just Richie’s way of documenting the days leading up doesn’t matter; it all but cemented her status as the next major “It” girl.
Hello, her makeup GRWM vids?
Remember when I said she was the Nudestix beauty director? Well, it all makes sense. In a series of follow ups to her debut vid, Richie takes us through her makeup routine—that, yep, she does herself—with go-to products like the Hourglass Vanish Seamless Finish Foundation Stick, Chanel Baume Essentiel (duh), and her fave Nudestix must-haves like the Nudies Matte Cream Blush in Sunset Strip. “Not Sofia Richie using physicians formula butter bronzer,” a fan wrote on TikTok. “I love you don’t have a glam squad,” another added.
She slayed the bridal style game
If you’ve been following Richie’s transition from ~Scott Disick’s much younger girlfriend~ to now (Me! Me! I have!), you would know that she knows how to dress. In her years since E!, Sofia’s mastered the chic, simplistic, old-money style that screams I’m richer and cooler than you will ever be—but, like, in a nice way. “She said ✨wife rebrand ✨,” one user wrote on TikTok.
Here’s the thing, though: It wasn’t just the custom Chanel (more on that in a min) that sold us on Richie. She slayed every step of the way. Even her poolside look was giving. Case in point:
Let’s talk about the Chanel of it all
As soon as Richie hit the South of France and started posting up a storm with her best Chanel accessories (including that custom bag), I had a strong hunch she was going in that direction with her wedding gown, too. I was right…times three. Weeks ahead of the event, Richie visited the Chanel haute couture salons in Paris for a final fitting and just casually brought Vogue along with her for a sneak peak of the looks—where she revealed not one, but three custom ‘fits.
She donned a long-sleeved, beaded number for the rehearsal dinner, a high-neck (also beaded) gown with scalloped detailing for the actual ceremony, and a mini dress with a 3D floral element for the after party finale. “They were so open to hearing my thoughts and suggestions, and they were so lovely to work with,” Richie said of the design process with Chanel. “I adore everyone that I got to know along the process … it’s something I’ll never forget.”
Please sob with me over the Vogue video
Now that we touched on the Vogue vid, let’s dive a little deeper—beyond just her Chanel picks. You’re basically a cold-hearted bitch if you didn’t shed a single tear watching her gush over Elliot (aka Mr. Sofia Richie, aka Elliot Grainge, aka her new hubs). “I’m so excited to be married just because I’m marrying Elliot,” she said in the video. “I know that sounds so cheesy, but he’s the man of my dreams.”
THE WEDDING! THE WEDDING! THE WEDDING!
Richie literally floated down the aisle with daddy Lionel Richie in arm (yes, use of “daddy” was a choice and I’m sticking with it, thanks) while Stephen Sanchez sang “Until I Found You.” As for the reception after, it was just as luxe as the ceremony and bride herself. The guest list was star-studded (naturally), firework show, and even a performance from bro-in-law Joel Madden’s early aughts mega-band, Good Charlotte.
So yes, we will be talking about Richie and this wedding for the next 50 years. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
