I have exactly one complaint about Netflix’s Sirens: It’s way too short. God forbid a woman wants to spend her entire Sunday binging an excellent show… These five episodes only got me through half the day. But it was a thrilling experience nonetheless. Julianne Moore, Meghann Fahy, Milly Alcock, and Kevin Bacon might just be the most powerful cast of the year, and this series has everything I could ever want in a show: comedy, mystery, a touch of romance, a cult, and a healthy dose of female rage.
*Spoilers ahead!* At the end of Sirens season 1, we discover that Michaela is not a psychotic murderer — she’s just a complicated woman stuck in a toxic marriage. Mr. Kell suddenly realizes he’s in love with Simone, and he dumps Michaela to be with her (much like how he dumped his first wife to be with Michaela). Devon, deeply disappointed in her sister’s choice to become the new Mrs. Kell, decides she wants to go home and keep taking care of their father. But what happens next? Will there be a Sirens season 2? Here’s everything we know about potential new episodes.
Sirens Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Plot
Will There Be A Sirens Season 2?
For now, the miniseries is just a miniseries. Devastating, I know. Despite literally everyone obsessing over this show, Netflix has yet to announce more episodes. The five-episode show is actually based on a 90-minute play titled Elemeno Pea, so it’s already significantly expanded from the original and new characters and plot lines have been added, too. That being said, it still seems like there’s hope for a season 2 — especially since it’s currently holding the No. 1 spot on Netflix.
The show creator and playwright, Molly Smith Metzler, reflected on the possibility to Glamour, sharing, “I wrote the play 15 years ago. I’ve been thinking about them this whole time. I could write them until the day I die.” She added, “I’d never say never, but could I do them justice in another season? I’d have to think about it. The fact that so many people are asking is really encouraging.” Promising! (I believe in you, Molly. You can definitely do them justice.)
Not to mention, multiple stars of the show have already confirmed that they’d be down for more. “It ends in a very natural way, but I can imagine what the characters’ worlds become,” Meghann Fahy told Variety about a potential new season. “I, for one, would love to know what happens to Michaela, where she goes. So I think it’s definitely within the realm of possibility. We didn’t talk about it on set, but I would love to do more.”
She even has a few theories about what’s next for Devon. “I think Devon goes back a really different person,” Meghann mused. “And I do think that when she goes home, she won’t drink anymore. I don’t think she sees Ray [Josh Segarra] as Ray anymore.” The actress believes that Devon “leaves with more self-respect than she arrived with” and finds “power” in her choice to take care of her father.
Milly Alcock, who plays Simone, also told Town and Country that she’d “love to explore a season 2.” The star shared, “I think that Simone’s such a fascinating person. I’d love to.” Now we just need Julianne Moore, Kevin Bacon, and Trevor Salter to sign on! I need to know how Simone’s Mrs. Kell journey turns out, what’s next for Michaela, and if Devon gets her love story or some kind of happy ending.
