The vibes are off at Cliff House. That’s kind of the whole premise of the new series Sirens on Netflix. The show is set at a big seaside estate where “everybody is dressed like an Easter egg,” except for one outsider who can tell something is amiss. That outsider is played by this season’s It Girl Meghann Fahy, and she suspects Julianne Moore of maybe leading a cult? Sign me up, I’m ready to binge this whole thing in one sitting.
Between The White Lotus and The Perfect Couple, Meghann has kind of become the queen of the niche genre of rich-people-behaving-badly TV. But, Sirens is different from some of the other beachy thrillers Meghann’s been a part of in the past. “The core of this show is not a murder mystery,” she told the Netflix blog Tudum. “It’s almost female trauma-laced. Sirens is really a show about relationships and the way people desperately try to outrun their pasts.”
The five-episode limited series is set over the course of one dramatic Labor Day weekend at the start of the summer, but it also seems like it could be the perfect Memorial Day weekend watch to kick off this summer. Here’s everything to know about the series Sirens on Netflix.
Sirens TV Series On Netflix
What is Sirens about?
Sirens tells the story of Devon, a cashier from Buffalo, NY, who travels to the seaside mansion Cliff House to retrieve her sister Simone. Simone works for the enigmatic lady of the house, Michaela (or Kiki) and has a weirdly codependent relationship with her. Simone does whatever Kiki says, to the point where she takes the chewing gum out of Kiki mouth because Kiki tells her that her breath smells bad. Yeah, I’d be thrown off by that, too, so I totally get why Devon gets freaked out. Plus there’s the fact that all of the society folks around Kiki seem to “worship” her and claim that she gives them “power.”
You can check out the trailer below, including a truly funny bit with an Edible Arrangement fruit basket.
Is Sirens based on a book?
This seems like the kind of darkly comedic story that would make for a perfect summer thriller, but it actually was a play first. Sirens is based on the play Elemeno Pea by Molly Smith Metzler, who also create the TV series.
Who’s in the cast of Sirens?
In addition to Meghann Fahy as Devon and Julianne Moore as Michaela, Milly Alcock (from House of the Dragon) plays Simone. The cast is rounded out by Kevin Bacon, Glenn Howerton, Josh Segarra, and Bill Camp.
When does Sirens premiere?
All five episodes of Sirens release on Netflix on May 22.
Will there be a season 2 of Sirens?
Sirens is a limited series, so the plan seems to be to keep it to the one season. But, we’ve seen limited series like The White Lotus and Big Little Lies get additional seasons before, so you never know.
