Is anyone else suffering from It Ends With Us cast drama fatigue? Yeah, same. I either need a tell-all documentary from Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni about their ~alleged~ feud, or I need to completely stop hearing about it. By now, I’m sure you’re aware that at the August 6 New York premiere, Justin was not photographed with any other cast members or Colleen Hoover, the author of the It Ends With Us novel. And you’ve probably also heard that Hasan Minhaj is the only cast member who currently follows Justin back on Instagram. Since online detectives observed these suspicious details, there have been intense Blake and Justin feud rumors.
According to sources for The Hollywood Reporter, the actors had a disagreement in the post-production stage — insiders claim that Blake commissioned her own cut of the movie, and that’s the one that reportedly made it to theaters. But that’s not all, unfortunately. On August 14, TMZ reported that Justin, who has back problems, asked his trainer how much Blake weighs to prepare for lifting her in a scene, and Blake felt “fat-shamed.” (Betches reached out to Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively’s reps for comment and did not receive an immediate response.) Meanwhile, Blake has pretty much been getting canceled for promoting the domestic violence-centered film as if it’s a cutesy rom-com. It’s all very exhausting.
However, Colleen did write a sequel called It Starts With Us… so, will there be an It Ends With Us sequel movie? Or are Blake and Justin saying goodbye to this franchise? Here’s everything we know.
It Ends With Us Sequel Movie: Everything We Know
Will There Be An It Ends With Us Sequel Movie?
There definitely should be a sequel film, considering the book, It Starts With Us, exists and Justin’s Wayfarer Studios already acquired the cinematic rights to it from Colleen in 2019. Not to mention, It Ends With Us has been a huge box office hit despite — or perhaps partially because of — the cast drama. The film has earned over $242 million worldwide so far, and according to Variety, ticket sales are projected to reach between $285 and $300 million. Not an amount of money to sneeze at, I’d say.
That being said, a sequel is not looking likely at this point, because, well, Blake and Justin allegedly hate each other. “This is uncharted territory, and nobody has any idea of what a sequel could look like,” a source familiar with the situation told Variety. “There’s probably no world where these two will work together again.” I will not rest until I know exactly what the fuck happened, because how do you totally squander an opportunity for an enormously successful sequel??
What Did Justin Baldoni Say About Directing The It Ends With Us Sequel?
You may recall that at the New York premiere, Justin hinted that he wouldn’t be a part of the sequel… and I think he also threw some subtle shade at Blake. When Entertainment Tonight asked him about directing the sequel film, Justin replied, “I think there are better people for that. I think Blake Lively’s ready to direct.” Sooo, maybe we’ll get a sequel directed by Blake? But I’m not sure how that switch-up would go over, given people’s strong reactions to how she’s handled the sensitive subject matter.
What Happens In The It Ends With Us Sequel, It Starts With Us?
***Spoiler alert, duh…
In It Starts With Us, Lily balances the flower shop and being a single mother to her and Ryle’s daughter, Emerson. And you guessed it: She also pursues a relationship with the true love of her life, Atlas. Readers get more of Atlas’ perspective and back story, and Ryle is a pretty minor character in the sequel.
