For the past few weeks, there has been a fleet of mystery drones just flying over New Jersey and other states in the U.S. Apparently, no one knows where these drones came from — not the residents, not the governor, and not even the president of the country. And as a New Jerseyan myself, I have to say I’m low-key freaking out.
Drone sightings have been reported in at least six states – New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Ohio. But because the drones were first spotted in Jersey (and continue to remain there), people are hyper focusing on the Garden State. So, if you’re like me and can’t sit comfortably as literal unidentified drones are floating in the air right above you, you probably want to know WTF is going on with the drones.
What Do We Know About The Drones?

These sightings have been going on since mid-November, according to AP News. Even though the government still hasn’t been able to find out where TF they came from, they seem pretty adamant in letting the public know that they didn’t detect that the drones were posing any threat to anyone. In a joint statement Thursday the FBI and DHS said there is “no evidence at this time that the reported drone sightings pose a national security or public safety threat or have a foreign nexus.”
The FBI, Homeland Security and state police are investigating the sightings and have yet to share where they came from, and what they’re doing. So, obviously, people are coming up with their own theories.
Drone Sightings Theories
I can’t really blame the general public for trying to come up with theories as to where these drones came from and why they’re suddenly popping up. I’ve seen Scandal, okay? I know that the government doesn’t usually tell us what’s going on. It’s no surprise some are saying the drones are being used as “something shiny” to distract us. But from what?
not usually a conspiracy guy but this whole drone thing really feels like the government saw people from across the political/social spectrum uniting in shared rage and thought “uh oh, gotta throw something shiny out there to distract them”

Environmental Monitoring
Over the weekend the CEO of an aerospace company went viral for sharing his opinion that these drones are used for some sort of environmental monitoring on behalf of the government. “My own guess is that these drones are not nefarious in intent — I could be wrong,” Ferguson said in the video. “But if they are drones, the only reason why they would be flying, and flying that low, is because they’re trying to smell something on the ground.” His theory? They could be trying to find gas leaks or radioactive material.

Project Blue Beam
Some conspiracy theorists are calling this part of Project Blue Beam. If you’re mentally well (unlike me), you’ve probably never heard of Project Blue Beam before. It’s the conspiracy theory that, at some point, the government will purposefully spread and use the fear of an alien invasion to put rules into place to control people. While some believe that these drones are the beginning of this plan, others don’t believe this is an alien invasion faked by Big Brother — but rather, the real deal.
Big Brother Is In On It
However, many online believe that the government does, in fact, know where the drones came from. There’s those who think the drones are the Biden administration’s attempt at somehow preventing the Trump presidency. Others believe these drones aren’t owned by our government but by a foreign entity (an “Iranian mothership”) that wants to cause the U.S. harm.
In a news conference on Monday, Trump decided to share his feelings on what might be going on with these drones. “The government knows what is happening. Look, our military knows where they took off from,” he said. “If it’s a garage, they can go right into that garage. They know where it came from and where it went, and for some reason they don’t want to comment.”
And on Truth Social (a new platform modeled after Twitter), he even suggested shooting these drones down. The FBI, on the other hand, said that wasn’t a good idea at all.
But it doesn’t seem like Trump knows what’s happening either, since he responded, “I don’t want to comment on that” when asked if he had been briefed on what was going on with the drones. (Shocker.)
And while these are all very *interesting* theories, all I want to know is: WTF did New Jersey do to deserve this?
