I can’t say I ever expected to see Chappell Roan on a straight woman podcast such as Call Her Daddy, but thank god this is a thing that happened. This episode is an hour and 23 minutes of gold. The “Giver” queen did not hold back, despite having a complicated relationship with fame and valuing her privacy. She spilled the tea about her “serious” current relationship (???), stealing a girl from her ex-BF, her younger self’s passionate hatred of the Jonas Brothers, the night that inspired her to write “Pink Pony Club,” and more. Here are the biggest revelations from Chappell Roan’s Call Her Daddy episode, including details about her girlfriend. Thank you for your service, Alex Cooper… Please interview all the pop girls.
Chappell Roan’s Biggest Call Her Daddy Revelations: Girlfriend, Jonas Brothers
Chappell’s Had a Girlfriend For Six Months
Chappell noted that it’s “serious” with this girl. She told Alex that she’s “very in love,” but “pro-single,” LOL. “I had a great time when I was single, and I know that I’ll be okay, and now I have an awesome time that I’m with someone,” she said.
She revealed that she met her current partner before she became an A-lister. “I haven’t dated someone since this all really, really blew up,” Chappell shared. “I’m not sure how I would date now. I think it would actually be a nightmare. I think I would be so single right now because you’re terrified of their intentions.”
She added, “I’m scared. I’m scared. I don’t trust anyone. I just think in my head, I’m like, any new person that I’m texting, I’m like, ‘I’m assuming they will screenshot this and send it to someone else.’”
She Once Stole a Girl From Her Ex-Boyfriend
When Chappell saw an ex-BF hitting on a girl at a club, she saw an opportunity to get revenge and enjoy a moment with a beautiful girl. “I’m actually not proud of this,” she admitted. “I see him hitting on this girl and I’m like, ‘Why the fuck is he doing this in front of me? This is evil.”
“We’re both single at this point so whatever,” she said. “He goes to the bathroom, I go up to this girl and I’m like, ‘I think you’re so pretty.’ Then I steal her. Then, at the end of the night, we were just making out and he’s just standing there.” Iconic. No notes.
“Pink Pony Club” Is Inspired By The Abbey In Los Angeles
Chappell’s anthem, “Pink Pony Club,” is actually about a night she had at the Los Angeles gay club, The Abbey. “Obviously, when I went, the night was fuckin’ awesome,” she recalled. “It was amazing and I just couldn’t stop dancing, and I was obsessed with the go-go dancers. And the music was so loud, and everyone was so hot and making out. I had never seen anything like it.” She wanted to be a go-go dancer after that.
All that being said, she wouldn’t go to The Abbey now. Apparently, she has three friends who go their phones stolen there.
She Hated The Jonas Brothers As a Kid
Despite being a Gen Z/Zillennial woman, girlie was not a JoBros stan as a child. “I always hated the Jonas brothers,” she said with a laugh. “But here’s the thing. Joe’s so fucking nice to me now. I’ve grown up to love them.” Aww.
When she was younger, she just didn’t GAF about men. It was all about Hannah Montana. (I feel so seen.) “I was like, I don’t care about the boys,” Chappell said. “I just want Hannah.” She went to the iconic Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana tour when she was little and felt extremely pissed off by the Jonas Brothers’ presence.
“I was nine,” she told Alex. “When they came out, I was like, ‘Oh my fucking god, I don’t care.’ I believed in god at that time and I was saying that shit in my head.” Chappell noted, “I think it was just the lesbian in me that had no interest in seeing them as an idol. Now, I’m like, ‘Werk.'”
Chappell Described Her Type
At first, Chappell tried to claim that she doesn’t have a type. But she absolutely has a type and it’s actually very specific. “As far as looks and stuff, I don’t really have at type,” the singer explained. ” But I love art girls, like weird art girls, girls who love to read and who are very niche. I like a girl that collects things and is okay with an exotic pet, owned a hamster one time and would own one again.”
“Or like, doesn’t give a fuck about their car,” she mused. “Will pick up a worm. Is not scared of bugs and snakes. Can get down watching a foreign film. Would be okay having zero plan.” Take notes, ladies.
She Thinks People Are Scared Of Her
Those TikTok rants yelling at strangers about approaching her worked, it seems. “I think people are scared of me,” Chappell said on the pod. “I think I made a big enough deal about not talking to me that people do not talk to me … I’ve been with people, like friends who are artists, and when they’re with me, they’re like, ‘It’s a force field around us. People don’t come up to me if I’m with you.’” She encourages her famous friends to set the same boundaries.
She Believes People Expect Her To “Play By Different Rules”
“People expect me to play by different rules because I’m gay and I should be more politically correct about that, and I should actually be way more knowledgeable about it,” Chappell reflected. “So I get asked a lot of fucking crazy questions that a lot of my peers would not get asked. And that’s because I’m gay and that’s because I have my opinions, but that doesn’t mean I’m completely like, I don’t know everything about every topic I have opinions on, like being gay.”
She explained, “Like, I don’t know everything about being a woman. I don’t know everything about fucking fashion or drag or performing. I try to know everything I can, but when I don’t answer a question correctly or I don’t acknowledge one community, it’s like, how can I do it all?”
