Answering All Your Urgent Questions About The 'Skywalkers' Documentary

If you’ve been dreaming of scaling skyscrapers recently, I’m gonna hold your hand when I say this: You’re not Angela Nikolau or Ivan Beerkus of the Skywalkers documentary, and you should not partake in this extraordinary dangerous and dumb activity. However, I do highly encourage you to curl up on your couch with a healthy-sized bag of chips and enjoy the documentary. You’ll experience a variety of different emotions, mostly fear and awe, and you’ll have a new appreciation for how much some influencers grind!

The director of the documentary, Jeff Zimbalist, is a seasoned skywalker himself. He’s attracted to “the transcendence, attraction to the unknown, being able to escape the preprescribed destinations of the city and find these autonomous places to face my fear and figure out who I wanted to be on my own terms.” Hmm. For me, strutting around the city and frolicking in parks to Charli XCX’s BRAT satisfies all those desires, but to each their own.

Here are the answers to all your burning questions about Skywalkers

Everything To Know About The Skywalkers Documentary

What Is Skywalkers About?

Skywalkers follows Russian adrenaline junkies Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus as they climb tall buildings (with almost no safety precautions) and film content for social media while doing so. They also navigate an intense romantic relationship, because yeah, you’re probably gonna fall in love if you spend all your time risking your lives together. The documentary was filmed the course of seven years and combines more than 200 hours of footage, including Angela and Ivan’s own footage.

Where To Stream Skywalkers

You can enjoy (or stress out about) Skywalkers: A Love Story on Netflix!

What Is “Rooftopping”?

Well, my version of rooftopping is sipping a cocktail with my friends on a rooftop. But unfortunately, that is not the version featured in this documentary. Rooftopping in this context means recklessly climbing skyscrapers so you can get some photos and videos at the top. It’s a lot of risk-taking just to show off to your followers.

Is Climbing Buildings Legal?

Haha, no. They’re making a career out of a little crime called “trespassing,” and they have faced consequences for it — Angela and Ivan got arrested after they were caught climbing the Notre Dame cathedral. I wouldn’t recommend following in these people’s footsteps… for many reasons. Personally, I don’t have death wish or a desire to promote dangerous activities to the youth.

Are Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus Married?

No word on a wedding yet, but perhaps one day! Or maybe they’re secretly married. Ya never know.

Where Are Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus Now?

They’re currently climbing the building you’re in! JK. Angela and Ivan have been busy climbing the buildings of Bangkok recently, and they’re planning on making their way to New York City next. Obviously, they don’t exactly share their climbing agenda, because what they do is illegal. With the documentary out now, their jobs are gonna be even more difficult. “There’s a big chance people will recognize us,” Ivan told Vanity Fair. “We are already banned from some sites in Europe because we seem to be in some database — they see us coming before we even get close.”

Nevertheless, they have no plans to stop skywalking. Ivan said that he and Angela will just “have to prepare better.” As long as they’re happy, I guesss…
