Listen, I too would date a Rabbi if the Rabbi in question was Adam Brody. After binging Netflix’s latest masterpiece, Nobody Wants This, this weekend, we’ve all been reminded that we’re completely in love with the charming and talented O.C. alum. I have unfortunate news for you… he’s taken. However, he’s taken by the other love of my life, Gossip Girl queen Leighton Meester, so I suppose it’s acceptable. Seth Cohen and Blair Waldorf truly are the couple we didn’t know we needed. But before Adam and Leighton were an item, he had a few other public relationships with women in the entertainment industry. I was curious, and I know you’re curious, so let’s get right into it: Here’s everything to know about Adam Brody’s dating history, past girlfriends and current relationship with Leighton Meester.
Adam Brody’s Dating History: Ex-Girlfriends, Wife
Adam Brody’s Girlfriends
Back in the O.C. days, Adam had a showmance with Rachel Bilson, who played his onscreen love interest. (Seth Cohen and Summer Roberts, you will always be famous.) The former costars dated from 2003 to 2006, and it was definitely serious, because they adopted a pitbull terrier together named Penny Lane. In April 2006, Rachel told Teen People: “We always have a lot to talk about, and we tell each other everything. I feel like I have everything now — the dog, the house, the job, and him. I can’t ask for anything more!” She really was living the dream.
In 2009, Adam started dating writer, director and producer Lorene Scafaria, and they were quite the creative pair. They worked together on the 2012 film, Seeking a Friend for the End of the World, and they also played in a band together called the Shortcoats. Adam and Lorene’s last appearance as a couple was at the Scream 4 premiere in April 2011, but it seems like they remained amicable post-breakup.
Adam Brody And Leighton Meester’s Relationship
Adam and Leighton met when they were living their best lives, starring in the two most popular teen shows ever, The O.C. and Gossip Girl. Apparently, the guy who produced both of those shows, Josh Schwartz, introduced the now-married couple at a Los Angeles deli. Although they wound up costarring in the 2011 rom-com, The Oranges, Adam and Leighton didn’t actually start dating until February 2013. Less than a year later, they exchanged vows, and now, they’re happily married with two kids and serve as inspiration to couples everywhere.
When Adam appeared on Penn Badgley’s podcast, Podcrushed, in April 2023, he opened up about his relationship with Leighton and revealed that he was “smitten instantly” with the actress. “She’s so nice,” he said. “She’s so good. And yet, and this is to her credit, she remained elusive to me for so long, you know, and aloof.” He explained that she “professes to have been interested” in him the whole time, but she wasn’t gonna do anything about it. Just an icon being an icon.
His marriage advice? “Oh, pick someone good,” Adam said on The Today Show. “Be lucky and be in love with someone who’s great and then just kind of listen to them. If you’re with someone great, you’re on third base.” Awww. Too bad we can’t all marry Leighton.
