In this house, we’ve been yelling “Goodbye Kyle” like a religious mantra since Ken Todd kicked Doogie out of Villa Rosa back in 2019. I’m not new to seeing through Kyle Richards’ covert scheming, I’m true to this, all the way back to the showdown in the limo that started it all. The thing is, plotting on the low is an essential part of being a Real Housewife… if you’re willing to “own it.” Now, it seems like Dorit is finally opening her eyes to the fact that honesty is the best policy only when it applies to everyone but Kyle Richards. Just two episodes into season 14 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, and Ms. Kemsley is no longer willing to hold up her pledge of loyalty to her tearful tyrant, and hoooo boy, is this fallout spicy. Can I bend your ear for a hot take? Kyle wasn’t being shady when she said Dorit wasn’t a close friend because TBH Kyle always viewed Dorit as her co-worker. Let’s unpack.
Kyle Richards And Dorit Friendship Drama
What are Kyle and Dorit fighting about?
On season 14 of RHOBH, the crux of the Kyle/Dorit beef stems from Dorit’s support of Kyle’s sister Kathy. When Dorit asked Kyle to show a little empathy for Kathy’s side at the season 12 reunion, Dorit officially made Kyle’s shit list. Kyle also expressed she was peeved Dorit asked personal questions about Kyle’s relationship status with Mau on camera (lol, kind of the point of the show).
From there, tension built up throughout season 13, as Dorit felt Kyle was holding grievances against her for things Kyle herself has done (like questioning people about their relationships and giving her opinion on how to resolve a fight she’s not involved in, two of Kyle’s go-to movies). Their slow-burning feud finally got firey at BravoCon in November 2023 when Dorit jokingly said Kathy was her favorite Hilton sister following Kyle spilling a drink on her on stage. Kyle also claims Dorit gossiped that Kyle was turning on the waterworks for sympathy at BravoCon, instead of getting real about what was going on with her divorce.
Dorit exposed this “double standard” of behavior backstage at the season 13 reunion when she read Erika a text exchange where Kyle had asked Dorit to keep quiet about their friendship issues that happened off-camera. Since Dorit did not hush up, Kyle took their battle from the reunion to the internet spring of 2024, stating that Dorit was exaggerating their friendship, a statement Dorit was shocked by considering Kyle had just texted her a big sappy book about how their relationship was more meaningful than life in the public eye.
Is Kyle just looking for a reason to be mad at Dorit?
Based on the fact that Lisa Rinna threw a glass at and called Kyle’s other sister “close to death” and received way less heat from Kyle, I’m going to say hell yes. Kyle isn’t mad Dorit got involved with her family saga, she’s mad Dorit went against her, even slightly, on camera and made her feel publicly embarrassed, as Erika clocked.
In fact, every one of Kyle’s points of contention with Dorit has to do far more with perception than reality. Implying Kathy is the better sister, bringing attention to Kyle’s marriage, and daring to speak Morgan’s name on WWHL (which Dorit believes is what Kyle is truly mad about) were all problems because, for Kyle, Dorit was planting seeds about Kyle for outsiders to pick up on, which is why Kyle quickly took back the narrative by saying they weren’t ride or dies. The Dorit that Kyle knew would never besmirch Kyle’s good name because their alliance always critiqued the rest of the cast, not each other.
Were Kyle and Dorit ever close friends?
Here’s where I’ll (sort of) come to Kyle’s defense. I believe Kyle was being genuine with her Amazon Live dig about their relationship (despite 10 years of documented friendship including several off-camera international couples vacations). Because Kyle is the biggest silent player in the Bravo game, and a real player knows that business comes first. Dorit was Kyle’s favorite co-worker, like someone you need to get through the workday but still wouldn’t call to bail you out of prison. Perhaps the word pawn is too harsh, but it seems like Dorit was more of a reliable second chair to Kyle than a true BFF. The moment she toed out of line, Kyle had to exile Dorit from her good graces to keep control of their Beverly Hills circle.
I do appreciate how much DK gagged Kyle expeditiously in the process of calling her out. You just know Kyle is absolutely fuming when she accuses whoever she’s arguing with of morphing into an alien freak imposter instead of someone who disagrees with her and is not afraid to show it. Kyle famously said being friends with Lisa Vanderpump was like playing chess with Bobby Fischer but I smell a little projection. If LVP was a mastermind keeping Kyle, Brandi, and Rinna as her subservient pets, then I guess Kyle just learned from the best and like any good gangster, whacked the boss to take their spot. In any case, I believe I’m speaking for the entire Bravo audience when I say, for once, Dorit needs to keep talking. Like, let’s revisit season 9’s Lucy Lucy Apple Juicy Coup next! I know you have the real tea on the Fab 5’s coordinated LVP takedown.
