I wanna thank Tashi Duncan for being my new personality. She’s the fictional tennis star and coach of our generation, the messiest love triangle point known to man, and also a fucking style icon. Met Gala co-chair Zendaya is known for serving on the red carpet — and she certainly has been for all of the Challengers premieres — but I find myself currently obsessing over all of Tashi’s looks in the movie. Stop criticizing this woman for her questionable romantic choices (Team Patrick all the way) and start praising her for her outfit choices, I say. They’re going too under the radar!
Tashi can do laid-back college, tennis chic, party dress, and sophisticated coach looks with ease. That’s no easy feat. The Challengers costume designer, Jonathan Anderson, is clearly a genius, and I plan to learn from the best. It’s time we start studying Tashi’s iconic Challengers outfits so we can up our aesthetic game.
The Strapless Blue Dress
Zendaya/Tashi looks absolutely ethereal in this party scene, which is one of the most memorable moments of the film. The strapless blue dress is giving classy teenage It Girl perfection. The love triangle seed was planted at this very spot. History was made. Hearts were opened. People in movie theaters were holding back screams. I’m not a teenager but I still feel called to find a dress like this one immediately.
The “I Told Ya” Shirt
As soon as I saw Zendaya and Josh O’Connor wear this shirt in the movie, I knew I needed to order my own immediately. The casual gray “I Told Ya” T-shirt is apparently connected to John F. Kennedy Jr. of all people? The costume designer wanted to channel JFK Jr.’s “old-money nonchalance,” and the attorney was photographed in New York City wearing a similar shirt. “Old-money nonchalance,” here I come.
The Fire Tennis Dress
Can we get a Tashi-style “COME ONNNN!” for this adorable tennis dress? I definitely have a need for this one because I absolutely spend the majority of my waking hours playing tennis. The sport is all I think about besides my two hot boyfriends. Actually though, I love how simple, cute, and professional this dress is.
That Tan Sweater
The ideal look for telling off your ex/current crush! She ~decimated that bitch~. Tashi’s soft tan sweater in this scene says: “I’m not trying hard, but I know I look good as fuck and very authoritative.” Comfortable, classic, mature… I need.
