Taylor Swift, Martin Short, Steve Martin, Paul Rudd, Zoë Saldaña, Paris Hilton, Camila Cabello, Cara Delevingne, SZA, and Ed Sheeran were among the many celebs who attended Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s September 27 wedding in Montecito, California. But one important person in Selena’s life was noticeably missing: Francia Raisa. The Only Muders in the Building star and the The Secret Life of the American Teenager actress became besties back in 2007. And a decade into their friendship, Francia donated a kidney to Selena during a life-threatening lupus flare-up.

“There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa,” Selena wrote in an Instagram post at the time. “She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.”

During a recent interview with Univision’s Primer Impacto (ahead of Selena and Benny’s nuptials), Francia mentioned Selena’s wedding and gave an update on their friendship. “I know she’s getting married,” the actress said. “And I’m very happy for her.” She notably didn’t say anything about going to the wedding.

“Look—she has a life,” Francia continued. “And she is already a billionaire, and I am grateful that I could do that for her.” Reflecting on her decision to donate a kidney, she said she fully understood the nature of the sacrifice at the time. “The doctors told me it’s a donation,” Francia explained. “If you’re going to donate a dollar to St. Jude or anywhere else, you’re not going to call and ask, ‘Hey, what are you doing with my dollar?’”

Francia emphasized that she’s grateful to be alive and grateful to have saved a life.

She also addressed “nonsense” rumors about her relationship with Selena. “There are too many rumors,” she said. “I’ve never said anything. When that rumor came out that I had gotten angry or something like that because she was smoking, I wasn’t aware of those rumors.”

According to Francia, “No one knows what’s going on” between her and Selena. She added, “One day, maybe we will address it.” Hmmm. While Francia didn’t explicitly say there’s beef, it sounds like their friendship isn’t in the best place right now, which explains her absence at Selena’s wedding.

It wouldn’t be the first time Selena and Francia had a rough patch. Back in October 2023, the actress shared that she and Selena recently “weren’t in a great place” and “needed time apart.” And of course, there was the whole “Taylor Swift is my only friend in the industry” drama.
