The first-ever season of The Golden Bachelorette was quite the journey for Joan Vassos, the 61-year-old school administrator who dated 24 hopeful men and ultimately found love on the show. At the end, she narrowed it down to two especially charming seniors, Chock Chapple and Guy Gansert, before giving the final rose to Chock. And no, I didn’t make those names up. Joan clearly just loves eccentric movie character names and a healthy dose of alliteration, and I can respect that. Between the presidential election, the Grammy nominations, John Krasinski winning People‘s Sexiest Man Alive, and now the Golden Bachelorette finale, I’m exhausted. Can we take a long break from contests of all kinds? I need to recuperate. Naturally, we’re all wondering about the status of the first Golden Bachelorette couple. Are Joan and Chock still together? Here’s what we know.
The Golden Bachelorette: A Joan And Chock Update
The Golden Bachelorette Finale Recap
Joan knew insurance executive Chock was the one after he met her family and they had a romantic final date in Bora Bora. She was supposed to do all that with Guy (an ER doctor) too, but didn’t wanna lead him on. She went to Guy’s bungalow — it’s giving Tarte brand trip, I fear — and gave him the tough news: “My heart belongs to somebody else now,” she told him. “This is the last thing I wanted. I’m so sorry.” When Guy told her he loved her, Joan replied, “I love you, but I love you in a different way.” Ooooof.
Sucks to be Guy, but I’m happy for Joan and her new man. “We are living proof that no matter what life throws at you, that there is still hope, even at our age, I waited till this moment in this amazing location to tell you that I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you,” she professed to Chock. “I want to wake up next to you in the morning, and I want to kiss you when I go to bed at night.” When he proposed to her, Joan accepted with an enthusiastic “of course!”
Are Joan And Chock From The Golden Bachelorette Still Together?
Yesss, at the After the Final Rose special, these lovebirds confirmed that they’re still together months after filming the season. “This feels so good,” Joan said, looking into the audience. “I’m looking at our family and friends who we’ve never gotten to be with together, so it’s so nice to finally be able to share our love and our story and our future with them.”
Chock chimed in, “I couldn’t be happier and I want the world to know it. I want to tell the world, the fans, how classy Joan is and the respect she gave all the other guys.” Ya know, maybe I will have to give this show a try in 40 years when I’m still single.
