It’s safe to say pop fans are experiencing ~deja vu~ right about now, because this rumored Sabrina Carpenter, Shawn Mendes, and Camila Cabello love triangle is majorly giving the infamous 2021 love triangle with Sabrina, Olivia Rodrigo, and Joshua Bassett. Brunette soft boy? Check. Two pop girlies into him? Check. Songs about the situation from all perspectives? Check.

None of us even remembered that Shawn and Sabrina dated until Sabrina released her brand new album, Short n’ Sweet; the album features a few tracks that appear to call out the “Stitches” king for being ~dumb and poetic~ and getting back together with his ex, Camila Cabello. Since Deuxmoi was the source, I honestly thought nothing of this rumor at the time. Buttt, someone left a tip, saying: “Spotted Shawn Mendes and Sabrina Carpenter on clearly a date at Horses anon pls. Thursday night.” When DeuxMoi asked for more details, the source added, “Sabrina was in a little brown miniskirt and clearly was Shawn newly shaved head wearing white sweater. They were verrrry comfortable.” I mean, the outfits do sound squarely on-brand for both of them.

February 27, 2023: Shawn And Sabrina Are Seen Going For A Walk In L.A.

Obviously, a walk doesn’t necessarily equate to love, but Us Weekly shared photos of Shawn and Sabrina  strolling around L.A., and they appear to be smiling and laughing together in the pics.

March 10, 2023: Sabrina And Shawn Leave Miley Cyrus’ Endless Summer Vacation Album Release Party Together

I genuinely can’t think of a better date night than fucking Miley Cyrus’ album release party. Shawn and Sabrina fueled the dating rumors further when they left the event together and rushed into a car with their heads down. A canon event for celeb couples, really.

March 12, 2023: They’re Spotted Hanging Out At Vanity Fair‘s Oscars After Party

At this point, it seemed pretty obvious that Shawn and Sabrina were at least casually seeing each other. Just a few days after their Miley date, they hung out at the Vanity Fair Oscars after party, and there’s a clip of them leaning in close to each other and talking.

March 13, 2023: A Source Tells Entertainment Tonight That Shawn And Sabrina Are “Seeing Each Other”

A source finallllly confirms that Shawn and Sabrina are, in fact, dating, telling Entertainment Tonight, “Shawn and Sabrina are seeing each other. They have been hanging out a lot and trying to keep things low-key. They were at a birthday party together a couple weeks ago and were cute together. Shawn is happy.”

March 17, 2023: Shawn Claims That He And Sabrina Are Not Dating

A brave soul at RTL Boulevard asked Shawn about the rumored budding romance with Sabrina, and he gave a pretty direct response: “We are not dating.” Suuuuure, Shawn.

April 15, 2023: Shawn And Camila Reunite And Kiss At Coachella

I’m including this non-Sabrina event because, well, it marks the end of the rumored Shawn and Sabrina dating era. (And it seems to be referenced on Sabrina’s album.) After a year and a half of being broken up, Shawn and Camila had a PDA-filled reunion at Coachella, which resulted in them getting back together for two months before calling it quits again.

August 23, 2024: Sabrina ~Seemingly~ Releases Several Songs About The ~Alleged~ Love Triangle

Obviously, this is just speculation, but I do think several of Sabrina’s new tracks are inspired by the Shawn and Camila situation. “Dumb & Poetic” seems like a brutal Shawn roast (meditation, mushrooms, and self-help books are all up his alley) and “Coincidence” seems to reference him and Camila briefly getting back together and then breaking up again. In “Sharpest Tool,” Sabrina says her man “found god at [his] ex’s house,” and “Taste” is a similar theme… Sabrina disapproves of this guy getting back together with his ex, and she taunts his ex in the lyrics (“You’ll just have to taste me when he’s kissing you”).
