Obviously, Reneé’s currently madly in love with fellow musician Towa Bird. They’ve been dating since early 2024. “I’m with the person I love and I want to marry,” she told Cosmopolitan in June. Obsessed with them!

Before Towa, Reneé dated TikToker Alissa Carrington in 2023. In February 2024, she seemingly opened up about their split while chatting with The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve dated people in the public and I went through a relationship, then a breakup last year,” she said at the time. “It was hard at first. It also depends on the person you’re with, and that can make it tough, and that can make you just want to cry all the time, and it did and it does.”

Reneé previously identified as bisexual and was linked to Broadway star Antonio Cipriano back in 2019, per Broadway.com. Fans noticed that they posted on Instagram together until 2021, which is likely when they broke up. During an IG Live, Reneé opened up about coming out as lesbian after coming out as bisexual. “I felt like for so long I had to be bisexual because I had to assume closeness to a sexuality that could lead to being with a man,” she shared. “That is something that I struggled with for such a fucking long time.” She pointed out that she grew up in the South, where she didn’t feel safe to fully embrace her queerness.

Reneé doesn’t explicitly say she cheated in the album, but in the last track, “I Can’t Have You Around Me Anymore,” she opens up about being really close with someone who’s not her partner. “Somehow, we always end up naked / Nothing ever happens, but it still feels real good,” she croons. “Now it’s causing lots of issues with my baby at home / ‘Cause in every single picture we’re a little too close.”

She concludes, “I can’t have you around me anymore.” During her first live performance of the song, Reneé got visibly emotional, breaking down in tears as she sang. She’s said that the track is her “favorite” song on the album. While Reneé could be referring to Alissa in this song, that theory is just a social media rumor at the moment. She hasn’t revealed who inspired the song. 

It also sounds like Reneé may have been on the receiving end of cheating — in “You’d Like That Wouldn’t You,” she imagines her ex apologizing: “If you said ‘I forgive, you were right, I’m stupid, I’m just a girl / Without you, I’m useless, I’m small, I’ll be weak, only cry once a week / And I swear that I would never, ever, ever cheat again.'”
