All The Best 'Paradise' Reddit Theories To Keep You Busy Until Season 2

First things first: Take a breath. If you’re here right now, you probably just finished season 1 of Paradise on Hulu, or you just can’t stop thinking about season 1 of Paradise on Hulu. Either way, you’re probably reeling from the twisty season 1 finale, so let’s all take a breath. Phew. Okay, now that we’re all at least slightly recovered from Paradise season 1, we can get going with all the good stuff, like trying to figure out what the hell is going to happen in Paradise season 2.

Warning: Spoilers for Paradise season 1 ahead (but you probably could have guessed that).

Trying to nail down the exact plot of Paradise is honestly a little bit of a fool’s errand. After all, season 1 of the series made it pretty hard to see where it was going next, and season 2 will likely be no different. And a lot of the fun of Paradise isn’t even in the plot twists themselves, but how those plot twists are told to the audience. The fact that the city of Paradise is actually in a bunker under a Colorado mountain is pretty juicy, but the fact that it’s revealed to the audience after a whole pilot episode of thinking it’s the normal world is even juicier.

It may be hard to predict the plot twists to come in season 2 and how they’ll happen. But, as always, the good people of the internet will try their hardest to deliver. Here’s a ranking of some of the best Paradise season 2 theories from Reddit.

7. The Number 19 Has A Special Meaning

One Redditor noticed that the number 19 comes up a lot in season 1 of Paradise. “Cal tells Xavier the world is 19 times more f’d up than anyone realizes. And then Dr Torabi says to Sinatra I’ve told you 19 times I’m not an interrogator,” they pointed out. There isn’t a ton of weight to this theory, so it gets the bottom spot on the list. But it’s definitely something to keep an eye out for in season 2.

6. Trent Knew About The Cameras At Cal’s Residence

It’s a pretty big coincidence that Trent attacked Cal precisely at the moment Billy and Jane had shut the cameras off. It could just be a coincidence, or it could mean that there was a bigger alliance happening behind the scenes.

5. Xavier’s Wife Isn’t Really Alive

This theory is a real bummer if true. Another fan noted that Sinatra very easily could have faked the recording of Xavier’s wife Teri. Given all the morally ambiguous (and straight-up wrong) stuff Sinatra’s done, it’s not out of the question. But it would be so tragic if Xavier goes on his whole expedition to the outside world only find out Teri isn’t actually alive.

4. We Haven’t Seen The Last Of The White House Staff

In episode 7, we saw everything that went down the day the world as we know it ended. That included seeing the heartbreaking way most of the White House staff was cast aside while Cal, Xavier, and the rest of the “Project Versailles” people were shuttled off to safety. During that episode, we spent a lot of time with Marsha, a White House aid who had been with Cal since the beginning of his career and was especially shocked to be left behind. There’s a good chance we haven’t seen the last of her, and she’s going to want to face off with Xavier after he betrayed her.

3. Sinatra Faked The Apocalypse

Huge if true, but what if world-ending ice volcano and subsequent tsunami didn’t actually happen? A fan on Reddit pointed out that the characters only saw the disasters on screen, never in person. Theoretically, Sinatra could have digitally created the disasters to make all the Paradise residents think the world was ending, so she could get them to help her build her perfect, safe community.

2. A Sad Ending For The Billionaires

Some people might think that the billionaires will die, but one Redditor thinks something much sadder is in store for them. “The very things the billionaires have, are not important in the new world,” they wrote. “They come out of the bunker, and they are nobodies. They don’t have anything to offer but their own self-importance. Their money and influence are worthless. Try to establish being the head of government? No one cares because obviously they didn’t care when they bailed to the bunker in the first place and left everyone to die.”

So while many of the residents of Paradise rejoin the rest of the world and contribute to rebuilding it, the billionaires hole up in Paradise, isolated from everyone else. Pretty bleak.

1. Jane Is Sinatra’s Daughter

This is a popular theory in Reddit, and really juicy one. A lot of fans have pointed out that based on the series timeline, Sinatra’s toddler daughter who we see in flashbacks would be 19 0r 20 years old in the present day. Jane also referenced playing Wii when her brother died, which track with the story of Sinatra’s son dying.

I know what you’re thinking: What about the daughter at Sinatra’s hospital bedside in the season 1 finale? Well, there’s a theory that she’s actually a third child Sinatra had later in life, leaving Jane to be Sinatra’s other daughter. Could be; with Paradise, you truly never know.
