Move over, Rihanna. Get the fuck out of the way, Lady Gaga. Take your vintage Chanel feathered cape and go home, Gisele. We need to talk about the under-appreciated fashion icons, the overlooked style trailblazers of the Met Gala: the men.
Men have historically been pushed aside during the Met Gala. Everyone was talking about Kim Kardashian popping blood vessels to fit into her Marilyn Monroe crystal Jean Louis dress but not one person complimented Pete Davidson’s black and white Dior suit with matching black sunglasses. Every headline last year applauded Blake Lively for her Atelier Versace dress inspired by New York City architecture, which transformed live on the Met’s steps from a rose gold gown to an aqua blue, but not one person even looked in Ryan Reynolds’ direction, who went above and beyond in his black and white Ralph Lauren tux. I mean, it was VELVET, for crying out loud. Does no one appreciate fashion??
Below, we are highlighting the true heroes of the Met Gala — the men who put forth the maximum amount of effort, who went to great lengths to achieve originality and truly exerted themselves to the fullest, pushing the boundaries of traditional style.
10/10, boys. You absolutely crushed it.
Bill Nighy
Anyone have any clue who the lady is on the left? Doesn’t matter, all eyes should be on the British actor, who is exuding power and confidence with his bold and daring look.
Keith Urban
Keith Urban proved to be a fashion icon with his timeless black and white tux. He was so committed to pushing the limits, he even matched the man holding Nicole Kidman’s train for the entire evening. I’m blown away. So impressive.
Charles Shaffer
Anna Wintour’s son Charles Shaffer dazzled on the red carpet in his unique and sophisticated outfit. So glamorous and avant-garde. (His wife was also there.)
Seth Meyers
All eyes were on Seth, who broke the mold with his non-traditional suit. Sartorial elegance at its finest.
Josh Groban
Josh Groban was a vision in black and white, completing the polished look with a matching white bowtie. Exceptional.
Pierce Brosnan
Pierce, my gosh. Such creative use of patterns and colors for an unexpected combination.
Hugh Jackman
Jaw = on the floor. Such an unconventional style, elevating a simple outfit to new heights.
Roger Federer
Roger rocked a groundbreaking design with an avant-garde take on traditional menswear. A game-changer.
Jonathan Groff
Jonathan was a walking work of art, bearing a striking resemblance to every other man who walked the carpet before him. Incredible.
Harry Kargman
Harry set the standard for Met Galas to come with his effortless outfit that combines vintage and modern elements. Look the original color palette.
Wendell Pierce
WOW, Wendell! You outdid yourself. The actor stunned in his tux and pulled out all the stops with his edgy and eccentric tie.
Derek Blasberg
The journalist and TV personality had such a fresh and new take on a classic look. Have never seen anything like it!
Mark Guiducci
The Creative Editorial Director of Vogue pulled out all of the stops! What a trailblazing style with a cutting-edge use of colors and prints.
