She’s out, true crime girlies. Gypsy Rose Blanchard has been released from prison, multiple outlets confirmed on December 28. Gypsy was released eight years after pleading guilty to the second-degree murder of her mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, in July 2016. Here’s everything we know about WTF she’s doing now.
When Did Gypsy Rose Get Out Of Prison?
She was released from the Chillicothe Correctional Center at 3:30 a.m. local time, according to the Missouri Department of Corrections.
What Was Gypsy Rose Blanchard’s Prison Sentence?
Gypsy was sentenced to 10 years in prison but was granted parole after serving more than seven years of her sentence. Her boyfriend at the time, Nick Godejohn, was also charged with murder. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole for stabbing Dee Dee in her Springfield, Mo. home.
What Happened To Gypsy Rose?
The news made headlines after it was revealed Gypsy was a victim of Munchausen by proxy syndrome and her mother, Dee Dee, exaggerated and made up all of her medical issues. Gypsy believed she suffered from leukemia, muscular dystrophy, seizures, and other impairments, and was forced to use a wheelchair and feeding tube even though she didn’t need them. “She physically chained me to the bed and put bells on the doors and told … anybody that I probably would’ve trusted that I was going through a phase and to tell her if I was doing anything behind her back,” Gypsy told ABC News’ “20/20” in 2017. At the time, Gypsy also said she wanted her mother to die “because I wanted to escape her.”
However, Gypsy regrets the decision years later. In an interview with People just before her early release, she reflected on the choices she and Nick made. “If I had another chance to redo everything, I don’t know if I would go back to when I was a child and tell my aunts and uncles that I’m not sick and mommy makes me sick,” she said. “Or, if I would travel back to just the point of that conversation with Nick and tell him, ‘You know what, I’m going to go tell the police everything.’ I kind of struggle with that.”
“Nobody will ever hear me say I’m glad she’s dead or I’m proud of what I did. I regret it every single day.”
However, she’s eager to look ahead and share more of her side of the story — in the form of an ebook called Released coming out on January 9.
“I’m ready for freedom,” Gypsy told People. “I’m ready to expand and I think that goes for every facet of my life.”
Is Gypsy Rose Blanchard Meeting Taylor Swift At The Chiefs Game?
So what’s next? Well, meeting Taylor Swift, apparently. According to TMZ, Gypsy bought tickets to the Kansas City Chiefs Game at Arrowhead Stadium on New Year’s Eve to try to meet her idol — the “kick-ass chick” who taught her everything about girl power. Her backup plan (if Sunday doesn’t work out) is buying tickets for the October 2024 tour stop in New Orleans. Sooo will we see Gypsy at the game? Seems likely!!
Happy New Year to Gypsy, Taylor, and me. Lol. Go Chiefs!
