In partnership with Crocs.
I vividly remember when Crocs burst onto the scene way back in 2002. I spent weeks begging my parents for a bright pink pair so I could be the ~quirkiest~ girl on the playground. And for a few years, I wore them religiously. All my friends had pairs too – each with their own signature color. But then, we grew older and suddenly, Crocs didn’t seem so “cool” anymore. Not that we stopped wearing them altogether, but they certainly weren’t the shoes we’d reach for to hit the mall or the bars.
But recently, something has shifted. It was like society collectively realized it was okay to be comfortable again, and we could step back out into the light wearing Crocs once more. At first, there was an air of irony around wearing Crocs again. You’d purposefully buy a gaudy pair and dress it up with childlike Jibbitz because that’s what Gen Z was doing, and hey, if Gen Z can do it, then it MUST be cool. But quickly, it became the norm to wear them however you damn well please.
Which brings us to admitting the cold, hard truth – Crocs ARE cool. They’re unique, customizable, and probably the comfiest shoe you could own. There’s nothing ironic about that. Sure, they might not be conventionally attractive, but neither is Jeremy Allen White — and he can still make headlines with a single Instagram post! Here’s why you should finally add a pair to your wardrobe:
They’re for the trendsetters
There’s nothing worse than arriving at a party, taking your shoes off, and seeing that every other girl wore the same style of whatever sneaker or boot is trending that month. Crocs offer much more than that. They come in hundreds of different colors, shapes, and patterns — and don’t even get me started on Jibbitz. You can add your favorite cartoon character, flower, food, sports team, or even a chain if you’re feeling ~fancy~.
They’re for the girls on-the-go
This is a shoe that feels like walking on air, even though you can safely walk over broken glass. (Which might get put to the test — I don’t know how you live your life!) These shoes can handle it all — from unplanned hikes that lead you deep into the woods to enduring hours-long lines for Taylor Swift tickets. They may have gotten a bad rap as “indoor shoes,” but toss some Jibbitz on there, and Crocs are the ugly-cool and comfortable shoes you’ve been waiting for.
They’re for the girls with nowhere to go
It’s totally cool to embrace the homebody life. Actually, it’s more than cool — it’s a lifestyle choice. Like, you need a shoe that can handle the journey to the basement for laundry duty or the garage for a flashlight when you’re a week late on your electric bill. And let’s be real, sometimes you simply forget to vacuum and the floor is questionable to walk on with bare feet. Whatever it may be, Crocs are the perfect shoe to slip into.
