All The Easter Eggs You Missed In Sabrina Carpenter's "Taste" Music Video

Okay, we need to give Sabrina Carpenter and Jenna Ortega Oscars for this “Taste” music video. An A+ short film if I ever saw one. This is a master class in acting from the two Disney Channel High School graduates, and I feel inspired to go plot against a man. (To be fair, I’m always down for that.) As you might have figured out by now, this song is likely about Sabrina’s early 2023 situationship with Shawn Mendes and him ultimately going back to his ex, Camila Cabello, in April that year. Remember that video of Shawn and Camila dancing together at Coachella? Yup, that was the chaotic reunion. Let’s just say, the music video, which is based on a famous movie, hints at that love triangle source of inspo even more.

I’ve done the analysis: Here are all the easter eggs in Sabrina Carpenter’s “Taste” music video.

Sabrina Carpenter “Taste” Music Video Easter Eggs

The Music Video Is Inspired By Death Becomes Her

The “Taste” video is based on the 1992 black comedy, Death Becomes Her. In the hilarious classic, which stars Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn, two women fight over a man and end up befriending each other. We love a feminist moral of the story!

The Shawn Mendes And Camila Cabello Lookalikes Situation

I fear the casting of this music video is definitely an easter egg in itself. Rohan Campbell, who plays the man being fought over, is really giving Shawn with his boring white T-shirt and brunette curls. And I don’t think it’s a “Coincidence” that Jenna was cast either, considering there are multiple TikToks and articles about how she closely resembles Camila. Sabrina, the mastermind you are.

The Mouth Tape From The “Please Please Please” Music Video

Remember when Barry had lipstick-marked tape over his mouth in the “Please Please Please” music video? There’s an adorable callback to that moment in the “Taste” video. Instead of Barry, Bear-y (a teddy bear) has the same mouth tape.

The Gravestone Might Be A Shawn Mendes Hint

The gravestone in the video reads: “In loving memory of Beloved Boyfriend,” and the dates are May 22, 1998 – August 23, 2024. Obviously, the music video came out on August 23, so that explains that date. Who was born in 1998, you ask? Yeah, he sings “Lost in Japan.”

ALSO. This might really be a stretch, but I had to look up May 22 to see if there was any significance there. Apparently, May 22 is National Maritime Day, a holiday that recognizes the launch of the U.S. maritime industry. Why the hell is this important, you ask? Because Camila Cabello released a song called “B.O.A.T.” on her most recent album, and the song is (I have to assume) about Shawn. This is 100 percent a coincidence, but I feel like a genius for making the connection.
