More than a day after watching The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 episode 7, I’m still having nightmares about those extremely whack bachelor and bachelorette parties. First of all, we’re dealing with a child bride and a child groom (Belly and Jeremiah are juniors in college). Never a good start. Second of all, Belly only had two girls there! Or three if you count her brother’s crush, which I do not. To make matters worse, you got Jeremiah and his pals joking about his cheating on Belly, plus Jeremiah getting sloppy as fuck and failing to meet up with Belly after. And don’t even talk to me about the Belly-Conrad beach scene. I’m still processing.
And Belly isn’t the only one with an ex there: Jeremiah also invited his ex-boyfriend, Blake, just to add even more fuel to the dumpster fire. If you asked yourself: Who TF is Blake? When did they date? Was he even in the books? That’s so valid. I was also quite confused. Let’s break down exactly who Jeremiah’s ex, Blake, is and what his sudden appearance means for this chaos.
Who Is Blake In The Summer I Turned Pretty? What To Know About Jeremiah’s Ex

No, Blake hasn’t appeared in the show before. Season 3 episode 7 is our first introduction to this mysterious ex of Jeremiah’s. After the kiddos all arrive at the Cousins beach house for the bach parties and wedding, the girlies have a poolside chat about the boys. Belly’s (only) college friend, Anika, asks which of the guys is single, and Belly gives a strategic answer. “I think Ethan,” she replies, carefully. “Blake is Jere’s ex, and Redbird’s got dibs.” Notice how she didn’t mention Conrad, who’s most definitely not seeing anyone. (Redbird is Jeremiah’s college bro, and I honestly thought they had romantic chemistry, but the show hasn’t gone that direction… yet.)
“Hold up, you’re okay with Jere having his ex at his bachelor party?” Anika replies. It’s a very valid question. Taylor points out that Belly doesn’t exactly “have a leg to stand on” there, considering her ~history~ with Conrad. Poor Anika’s quickly realizing all the incest-adjacent dynamics at play in this group.
Belly really doesn’t seem to give a fuck about Blake’s presence, probably because she’s too busy being in love with Conrad. But I digress. Although this is our first time meeting Blake, he was briefly mentioned in season 2 when Jeremiah said he was going to homecoming with someone named Blake. Interestingly, this character didn’t appear in the books. He’s only in the show for like three seconds, so I’m not totally sure what purpose he’s supposed to serve. Maybe it’s just to show that Belly’s not jealous at all?
We’ve known that Jeremiah is bisexual since the beginning of the series — “I’m just equal opportunity,” he says in season 1. Maybe when Belly inevitably dumps Jeremiah for Conrad, Jeremiah will end up with Blake or Redbird. We’ll just have to wait and see!
