Lizzo Finally Addressed Her Dancers' Allegations About That Wild Night At Bananenbar

Almost a year and a half after three of Lizzo’s backup dancers sued her for alleged sexual harassment, racial harassment, and a hostile work environment, the “About Damn Time” singer is sharing her side of the story in detail. Lizzo appeared on Keke Palmer’s podcast, Baby, This is Keke Palmer, on December 19 and addressed several of the allegations against her, including that infamous Bananenbar controversy. Bananenbar is an Amsterdam nightlife spot with exotic performers, and the dancers claimed in their lawsuit that Lizzo “pressured” them into doing things there that made them uncomfortable. Lizzo, of course, has a very different perspective on how the night went.

Here’s a breakdown of the dancers’ Bananenbar allegations and Lizzo’s response.

What Happened Bananenbar In Amsterdam? Controversy Breakdown

What Did Lizzo’s Dancers’ Lawsuit Say About The Bananenbar Incident?

In the August 2023 lawsuit, the dancers accused Lizzo of pressuring them to touch nude performers at the Amsterdam bar. Per the complaint, “Lizzo began inviting cast members to take turns touching the nude performers, catching dildos launched from the performers’ vaginas, and eating bananas protruding from the performers’ vaginas.” The lawsuit says Lizzo then “began pressuring” dancer Arianna Davis to touch a nude performer’s breast after the dancer made it clear that she didn’t want to.

The dancers also alleged that Lizzo “badgered the security guard to get on the club’s stage until he submitted to her demands.” According to the suit, when the security guard got on stage, “his pants were pulled down, exposing his buttocks.” Lizzo allegedly yelled at him, “Take it off!” as a performer hit him with whips.

What Happened At Bananenbar, According To Lizzo

Lizzo addressed the Bananenbar-related allegations during her interview with Keke Palmer. “Bananenbar is a very popular bar in Amsterdam and it has exotic performers,” she explained. “I went on my own because I was in Amsterdam.” According to the singer, one of her dancers was at a birthday party for one of the backup singers. Lizzo said the group had nowhere to go after the birthday dinner, so she invited them to “come through.”

She stressed to Keke that the nude performer at Bananenbar was “very consensual” and asked everybody in the group whether or not they wanted to participate. “There were moments where there was some wild stuff that happened,” Lizzo admitted, adding, “but everybody had a great time,” Lizzo noted that only two of the three dancers in the lawsuit actually attended, and she wasn’t even aware that those two dancers were coming.

After this experience, Lizzo says she has boundaries “as wide as the ocean.” She told Keke that now, she doesn’t think her employees “should even be privy to how I am in a bar.”
