If you had told me two years ago that I would be eagerly awaiting an episode of a show on Facebook Watch, I would not have believed you. But Jada Pinkett Smith and the Red Table Talk crew have done it once again, announcing earlier this week that Olivia Jade Giannuli, the celeb daughter-turned-influencer who gained notoriety after her parents bought her way into USC, would be coming to the Red Table. This might be the most exciting episode since the infamous Jordyn Woods interview, and obviously, I had to watch right away.
A little background, in case you’re somehow not already obsessed with Olivia Jade. When the college admissions scandal was uncovered in the spring of 2019, one of the highest-profile people involved was Full House star Lori Loughlin. She and her husband, designer Mossimo Giannuli, paid half a million dollars to get their daughters into USC by pretending that the girls were being recruited to the school’s rowing team. After ultimately pleading guilty earlier this year, Loughlin was sentenced to two months in prison, and Mossimo was sentenced to five months. Both are currently serving their sentences, which apparently makes this the perfect time for Olivia Jade to break her silence. Here are the highlights of what we learned from Olivia Jade’s appearance on Red Table Talk.
Adrienne Really Didn’t Want Her There
Before Olivia came to the table, the episode opened with a discussion between Jada, her daughter Willow, and her mother Adrienne. Adrienne shared that she was not in favor of bringing Olivia Jade on the show, saying that she “found it really ironic that she chose three Black women to reach out to for her redemption story.” She added that Olivia coming on the show was “the epitome of white privilege,” and argued that Olivia would “recover whether her ass was sitting at this table or not.”
During the interview, Olivia seemed to have a good understanding of her privilege, and was clear that she doesn’t expect sympathy from anyone. Adrienne wasn’t afraid to give her a hard time, saying that with all the privilege Olivia has had throughout her life, “it’s very difficult for me to feel compassionate about you.” To her credit, Olivia took the criticism in stride, saying “I didn’t come on here to win people over,” and that she just wants to apologize and tell people she’s aware that what she did wrong.
She Didn’t Know Everything That Was Happening During The Application Process
Unfortunately, they didn’t dive too deep into the particulars of what went down during the application process. Personally, I wanted a detailed explanation of how those rowing machine photos came to be, but alas, I didn’t write the questions. Olivia did, however, say that she wasn’t fully aware of what was happening during the application process, and that she thought her parents were just making a donation like all her other rich friends. She did address specifics of her application, saying that she didn’t write some of the things that were made public. Basically, she said she wrote an essay about her YouTube channel, and then someone else swapped it out for some bullsh*t about rowing.
She also said that when the scandal initially became public, she still didn’t really get what happened. When asked if she was immediately angry with her parents, she said, “to be honest, I wasn’t angry, because I didn’t have a good understanding of what happened.” She also said that she never went back to USC because she was embarrassed, and that she knew she “shouldn’t have been there in the first place.”
Olivia Hasn’t Talked To Her Parents In Prison
Both Lori and Mossimo have been in prison for several weeks now, and at the time of filming this interview, Olivia still hadn’t spoken to either of them. She said something about there being a quarantine period, and there’s no in-person visiting due to COVID, but I’m not sure how that affects phone calls. Olivia didn’t seem to know either, saying that she’s basically just waiting to hear from either of them whenever they’re allowed to call.
It Seems Like She’s Learned A Lot
I’m not trying to give too much credit to Olivia Jade, but overall, she came across well in the interview. She was never defensive, she seemed more interested in listening than speaking, and she openly admitted that what happened was wrong, and she’s embarrassed she didn’t realize it at the time. She also addressed her silence in the aftermath of the scandal, saying that for a long time, she wasn’t allowed to say anything because of the legal situation. She insisted she’s “not this bratty girl that doesn’t want to change anything,” and brought up some of the volunteer work she’s been doing. Basically, her media training worked, and even Adrienne seemed impressed by the end of the interview. At the end of the day, she’s still a rich girl who did some problematic sh*t, but at least it seems like she’s trying to learn.
It’s Unclear What’s Next
Over the year and a half since her fall from grace, Olivia Jade has mostly kept a low profile, taking lengthy breaks from Instagram, and only uploading two videos to her YouTube channel. In her interview, she didn’t make any big announcement about what she’s planning to do in the future, but she did hint at a return to YouTube. She spoke about how her past videos were all focused on her world, and said that when she goes back, she wants to show that there are bigger problems in the world outside her bubble. Unclear exactly what that means, but I think it’s safe to say she’s not just going to disappear forever.
Obviously, Olivia Jade is going to be fine no matter what, and she doesn’t really need our thoughts and prayers to make it through any of this. But her Red Table Talk interview was an encouraging sign that she has been able to take a step back and learn about how the world actually works, and how she was able to get opportunities and treatment that most people would never have access to.

UPDATE: A week ago, everyone was side-eyeing Jada Pinkett Smith for her use of the word “entanglement” to describe her relationship with August Alsina, but it turns out August kind of likes it. In an interview with Vulture published on Friday, he said the definition of an entanglement “is a complex and difficult relationship,” and his relationship with Jada was “exactly that.” While Jada and August’s accounts differ on some specific points (mainly whether Will gave August his blessing), it seems like they’re mostly in agreement about the relationship itself.
Over the weekend, August further
milked addressed the situation by dropping a new song called, you guessed it, “Entanglements.” Thirsty? Perhaps, but I respect the hustle. The song, which features Rick Ross, is obviously about Jada, but it’s really not a diss track at all. In the chorus, August sings “The definition of entanglement, it’s when you’re tangled in the sheets. Girl I know that we don’t call it a relationship, but you’re still f*cking with me.” So, uh, if there was any question about the physical nature of their ~entanglement~, consider it answered.
August does, however, give Jada a little bit of sh*t later in the song, singing “You left your man to f*ck with me, just to pay him back. Don’t you know that’s cold-hearted? Once you gone, no coming back.” This is especially interesting because August is implying that Jada left Will to get with him. In the Red Table episode, they said they were separated, and then made it sound like the August ~entanglement~ started at some later date. Really, I would love for Jada to map this all out on a calendar so we can all be on the same page. Maybe that will be on a follow-up Red Table Talk.
Overall, it seems like August Alsina still has love for Jada Pinkett Smith, but perhaps the particulars of their situation aren’t as clear-cut as Jada and Will want us to think. Like I said before, I’m just waiting for the day that August Alsina comes to the Red Table, because I still feel like that’s a real possibility. Maybe August can even do a live performance of his new song, and then Jada can give her feedback. Please, it’s what we deserve in 2020.
Original Article: As we move into month four (five?) of quaran-times, the celebrity breakups and divorces have kept rolling in. Over the weekend, both Armie Hammer and Darius Rucker joined the 2020 divorce club, and Rachel Bilson and Bill Hader split six months after taking their relationship public. But while all of these couples are breaking up in real time, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith are just now clearing up their relationship drama from years ago. Somehow, in our darkest times, the Red Table always shows up to rescue us from despair.
Will and Jada are one of Hollywood’s most iconic power couples, but in recent years, there have been frequent rumors about separation and divorce, and whether they have an open marriage. Will has appeared multiple times on Jada’s Red Table Talk show, and while they’ve openly discussed certain issues in their relationship, they always avoided responding to any specific rumors. But at the end of last month, the rumors exploded when singer August Alsina spoke publicly about his relationship with Jada Pinkett Smith.
In an interview with The Breakfast Club’s Angela Yee, Alsina detailed their “relationship,” saying that he became close with Jada and the whole family after Jaden introduced them in 2015. He and Jada grew closer, and eventually, he claims he “actually sat down with Will and had a conversation due to the transformation from their marriage to life partnership… he gave me his blessing.”
According to August, the relationship was quite serious. He said, “I totally gave myself to that relationship for years of my life, and I truly and really, really deeply love and have a ton of love for her. I devoted myself to it, I gave my full self to it—so much so to the point that I can die right now and be okay with knowing that I truly gave myself to somebody.” He acknowledged that the arrangement might be “hard for people to understand,” but felt that he needed to “speak up about my truth” after rumors began to affect his career.
August Alsina’s revelation about his relationship with the Smith family was pretty much in line with what many people had suspected for a long time, but Jada quickly denied his story. A representative for Pinkett Smith called Alsina’s claims “absolutely not true,” but it quickly became clear that Jada had more to say on the matter. A few days after Alsina’s interview, Jada tweeted that she was bringing herself to the Red Table, saying “there’s some healing that needs to happen.” As a proud messy bitch who lives for drama, this tweet did more for my serotonin levels than anything else that’s happened in 2020.
There’s some healing that needs to happen…so I’m bringing myself to The Red Table.
— Jada Pinkett Smith (@jadapsmith) July 2, 2020
Jada kept her promise, and on Friday afternoon, released a Red Table Talk episode addressing the rumors. In the brief episode, which broke the Facebook Watch record for views in the first 24 hours, she and Will finally cleared the air. To begin with, they admitted what so many had guessed: they were separated at one point. Jada said that, around four-and-a-half years ago, she became close with August, at a time when he was very sick and needed help (Alsina suffers from an autoimmune disease). Will and Jada clarified that around this time, they “broke up,” and Will added that he was “done with yo’ ass.”
View this post on Instagram
Jada says that it was during this “indefinite” separation that she “got into a different kind of entanglement with August.” Jada repeatedly used this word “entanglement,” which in turn provided prime material for approximately one million memes over the weekend. This just isn’t a word that real people actually use, and Will eventually called her on this, telling her, “you need to say clearly what happened.” After she doubled down on “entanglement,” Will corrected her, saying “a relationship.” LOL, this isn’t awkward at all.
Jada also clarified August’s claim that he received Will’s permission to enter into the ~entanglement~, saying that the she is the only person who can give permission for herself. However, she said that she understood August’s perception of this, noting that she and Will were “separated amicably,” and that August is not a “homewrecker.”

Eventually, Jada and Will began to come back together and work through their issues, and Jada said that August decided to “break all communication” with her at this time. She said this was “totally understandable,” and that she and August haven’t spoken since. So according to her, the relationship only began after she and Will were separated, and ended before they were officially back together. We don’t have any exact dates to work with here, but the Smiths are sticking to their story that they’ve never had an open marriage of any kind.
Whether you believe that Jada is telling the whole truth or not, at least she’s not just calling August Alsina a liar anymore. It’s clear that there’s a lot of history here, but it seems like in general, everyone in this situation still has love for each other. Maybe Jada isn’t thrilled that all of this became public the way it did, but it’s hard to believe this wasn’t going to make it to the Red Table at some point. Now the only thing left to figure out is when August Alsina will make his inevitable Red Table debut. You know it’s coming.

Over the last month, social media apologies have been a regular occurrence as celebrities, media personalities, reality stars, and the like have faced heightened scrutiny for problematic behavior. These revelations about insensitive behavior seem to be affecting different industries in waves, and now, it’s YouTube’s turn in the hot seat. The YouTube community is generally known for being a breeding ground for drama and messiness, but racist content goes a step above the usual beauty guru feuds. In the past week, several of the platform’s top creators have been taken to task for their problematic content, but none has come under fire more than Shane Dawson.
Shane Dawson has been one of YouTube’s top creators since the site’s early days, and his videos have racked up over four billion views. In the last few years, Shane has mainly been known for his documentary series about other YouTube personalities like Tana Mongeau and Jeffree Star, but a decade ago (we’re old), it was his over-the-top sketch comedy that made him a YouTube star. But those videos were littered with racist characters, racial slurs, and even blackface, and in 2020, they’re finally catching up with him.
Last Thursday, another megastar of YouTube’s early days, Jenna Marbles, announced that she is “done with this channel, for now or forever”, after receiving backlash for several of her old videos. The videos at the center of the controversy included a Nicki Minaj parody, which featured Marbles in blackface, and a rap video in which she used derogatory language about both Black and Asian people. In her apology, she said she wants to “make sure the things I’m putting in the world aren’t hurting anyone”, and will be taking an indefinite break from YouTube.
After Jenna Marbles uploaded her apology video, social media turned its attention to Shane Dawson, calling out similarly problematic content in his videos. On Friday, Dawson uploaded a 20-minute video titled “Taking Accountability,” which he said was inspired by seeing Jenna Marbles’ video.
Right off the bat, he addressed apology videos he’s made in the past, saying that they were made out of “fear” that everyone was mad at him, rather than a desire to actually hold himself accountable. In the video, he apologized for using “stereotypes of Black people, or Asian people, or Mexicans, or pretty much every race.” He added that he is also sorry that he “added to the normalization of blackface, or the normalization of saying the n-word.”
The video is pretty standard YouTube apology fare—thankfully without any fake tears—but it’s not for me to accept or reject. Shane Dawson has lost around half a million subscribers in the last week, but one very famous family has made their disapproval extremely clear. Along with all the other problematic content on his channel, a clip surfaced in which Dawson pretended to be aroused by a picture of Willow Smith, who was 11 years old at the time. In his apology video, Dawson apologized for making jokes about pedophilia, but didn’t reference this specific clip. The day after the apology video, Jaden Smith and his mother, Jada Pinkett Smith, made their thoughts known on Twitter.
SHANE DAWSON I AM DISGUSTED BY YOU. YOU SEXUALIZING AN 11 YEAR OLD GIRL WHO HAPPENS TO BE MY SISTER!!!!!! IS THE FURTHEST THING FROM FUNNY AND NOT OKAY IN THE SLIGHTEST BIT.
— Jaden (@jaden) June 27, 2020
To Shane Dawson … I’m done with the excuses.
— Jada Pinkett Smith (@jadapsmith) June 27, 2020
Look, all I’ll say is that you know you’ve f*cked up when Queen Jada is dragging your ass on Twitter. Shane hasn’t publicly responded to the Smith family.
It’s unclear where Shane Dawson will go from here, but given that he still has over 22 million subscribers, I’m sure he’ll figure something out. And in just a few short days, the tide of YouTube anger has already turned to a new subject: Liza Koshy. Another creator whose video views number in the billions, she and her ex-boyfriend David Dobrik were called out for a 2016 video in which they “imitated Asian accents while tasting candy from Japan and Hawaii.” In the video, Dobrik specifically says, “It’s not racist, that’s like the sounds I hear when they talk,” which like, no. And in a second video with the same concept, they not only imitated the accents, but “pretended to speak Japanese.”
View this post on Instagram
On Sunday, Koshy shared a lengthy statement on Instagram, which conspicuously featured no actual mention of the videos in question. She said that she “unknowingly perpetuated racist ideas” through her content, and that going forward, she is “taking note that my impact and influence will weigh greater than my intention.” So far, David Dobrik hasn’t made any public statement about the controversy.
Considering the amount of messiness in the YouTube community, there will almost certainly be more of these apologies, and hopefully they’re sincere. But in the meantime, why not freshen up our feeds with more BIPOC creators? There are so many, but here are a few of my favorites that you should definitely check out:
One of my personal favorite beauty gurus, Jackie Aina is beautiful and hilarious, and usually steers clear of the drama in the YouTube beauty community.
Rachel Ama makes amazing vegan recipe and lifestyle videos, and even if you’re not into cooking, her videos are beyond soothing. Just trust me on that one.
My number-one weakness is watching luxury handbag videos, and Mel in Melbourne basically unboxes a new Hermès bag every other week.
KarenBritChick is possibly the most chic person on the planet, and her mix of high-end and thrifted fashion is enviable. If you like fashion content, she’s a must-watch.
If you like knowing about YouTube drama but don’t actually know who most of these people are, As Told By Kenya is essential viewing. She breaks down YouTube scandals and pop culture messiness better than anyone else, and she’s also funny AF.
Those are just a few of my favorites, but the best part of YouTube is that you can easily spend hours going down a content rabbit hole. And with that, I’ll be spending the rest of the day watching handbag reviews if you need me.

No matter how cynical you are, you’d have to be a sociopath not to have a soft spot for adorable children on the internet. I’m not talking about photos of random babies, because honestly not all babies are that cute. I’m talking about talented, adorable kids who love being on camera and are going viral. The latest viral sensation under five feet tall is Ivanah, a 6-year-old girl from South Africa who just loves to dance. Ugh, so pure. So adorable.
Ivanah just started her social media accounts last month, and she already has 40,000 fans on Facebook, over 100,000 followers on Instagram. How?? Considering it took me six years to get to 1000 followers on Instagram, I’m honestly offended. Her aunt runs her account, and she’s doing a fabulous job, not that Ivanah needs much help. (Side bar: can I commission her aunt to run my Instagram too?) Here’s an example of the truly joyful content that Ivanah is putting out there:
I mean, how can you not love that? Aside from gaining tens of thousands of followers in just a few weeks, Ivanah has also impressed lots of famous people. One of Ivanah’s most recent videos shows her getting down to Lizzo’s “Juice,” (which like, same), and Lizzo reposted the video on her Twitter page:
Rare footage of me as a child ?? pic.twitter.com/ArnB5PVmc5
— |L I Z Z O| (@lizzo) June 7, 2019
Honestly, in 2019 there’s no bigger stamp of approval than from the queen Lizzo herself. She’s been on top of the game this year, so little Ivanah should feel very honored.
After Lizzo posted the video, Chris Evans (the best famous Chris, don’t @ me) was also obsessed with Ivanah.
This kid is cooler than I could ever hope to be. https://t.co/ZsDvdBxKts
— Chris Evans (@ChrisEvans) June 8, 2019
I mean, when Captain America says you’re cooler than him, you know you’ve made it. I think what makes Ivanah so perfect is that 1) she’s adorable, and 2) she’s young enough that it doesn’t feel like she’s trying too hard. She’s just a little girl who f*cking loves dancing, so it’s not like she’s trying to be on Dance Moms or something. But also if Ivanah was on Dance Moms, I’d probably start watching again…just saying.
In addition to Lizzo and Chris Evans, Jada Pinkett Smith posted a video of Ivanah on Instagram, saying that “this girl has life figured out.”

Will Smith also reposted this one, so I guess she’s doing okay. Head to Ivanah’s profile and smash that follow button, because it’ll probably make you a happier person.

In the history of the world, there are certain pivotal events that we all experience together. Everyone remembers where they were when man first landed on the moon, or Barack Obama was elected President. Today, we are at a crossroads, after which we will never be the same. This saga feels like it has been going on for years, but it’s only been 1o days since news of Jordyn and Tristan’s cheating surfaced. We’ve all been losing our minds over the last week and a half, but today, we should finally get some answers. After the longest 10 days of my life, Jordyn Woods is breaking her silence.
On Tuesday evening, Jordyn Woods sat down with Jada Pinkett Smith to record an interview for Smith’s Red Table Talks show. We still have no idea how this interview will go down. Will Jordyn be apologetic right off the bat? Will she come up with excuses, or use this as an opportunity to spill tea about the Kardashian family? We’ll find out soon. The interview is scheduled to go live today, March 1, at 9AM Pacific, and this is where we’ll be keeping you updated live as the interview unfolds.
AND. WE. ARE. LIVE. Jada immediately tells us that she’s known Jordyn her whole life, because her dad worked on Fresh Prince. This is going to be emotional, I can already tell.
“This is grown woman mess on a ‘mother level.” – JORDYN HAS SPOKEN.
Jordyn is in the kitchen with Jada and her mom, and Will Smith joins us via FaceTime. He obviously loves Jordyn, and tells her that she’s supported. Jordyn is already crying, so this is going to be a long 30 minutes. Will instructs her to “take her medicine, and tell her truth.” He is so f*cking wise.
Jordyn says that Sunday night she went to a bar after dinner with friends. She was minding her own business, but Tristan was there. She says that normal LA culture is to go to someone’s house after being out at a bar. That night, it was Tristan’s house.
Jordyn says that she was hanging out with Tristan, but they never left the party to go to a private area. She says that there were other girls around, and she wishes they would hold themselves accountable, but she doesn’t want them to go through what she’s going through.
She is adamant that she never gave Tristan a lap dance, but she can see why people would say they were “getting cozy.” Her “butt was never sitting on him,” but she had her legs over his legs. Jesus girl, we need a crime scene reenactment.
She is firm in her denial that anything intimate happened between her and Tristan, but she acknowledges that someone in her position shouldn’t be hanging out with Tristan like she was. She admits that she didn’t leave until 6AM, but says she was with other people the whole time. She also says that she was drunk, but has never blacked out in her life. Sure, Jan.
BOOM. Jordyn admits that when she was leaving, Tristan kissed her on the lips. There was no passion, but it still happened. This is important.
Later that day, she was talking to Khloé and Kylie about that night, and she says that she was not honest about the actions that had taken place. Even if she’s telling the truth about not hooking up with Tristan, she lied by omission in that moment.
“DID YOU SLEEP WITH TRISTAN.”
“Never. Attach me to a lie detector, whatever it is, I need people to know the truth.”
Now Jada and Jordyn have pivoted, and are talking about how tough they can have it as black women. This is so, so true, and here’s some insight into how this issue has affected our discussion of this scandal as a whole.
Jordyn says that her family can’t go out in public right now, but I dare anyone reading this to tell me what Jordyn’s mom, or brother, or sister look like. I get that she’s probably been unfairly scapegoated in this whole scandal, but her family isn’t that well-known.
Jordyn reiterates that her main mistake that night was going to the afterparty in the first place. Honestly, that’s how most of my nights out go, so I can relate to this feeling.
She says that she told Kylie she was coming to the Red Table today, and that she has reached out to Khloé to repeat that there was no malicious intent in what happened.
Jada reminds her that there’s a lot of pain happening, so it might take many attempts, and also a good deal of time, for people to feel safe and open enough to let her back in. This is how I feel every time I say I’m never drinking again.
The first question from the fish bowl is if this was a publicity stunt. Jordyn simply says “It’s been real.”
She says that she did apologize to Khloé, but has not been able to see her in person yet. For the third time, she offers to take a lie detector test, even though all those SVU marathons taught me that polygraphs aren’t really that reliable.
Jordyn says that it’s hurtful how many people who she considered friends have taken to social media to bully her. She also says that 90% of the people who have spoken out as sources aren’t her real friends.
AND WE’RE DONE.
So here’s what happened: Jordyn was adamant that she and Tristan never hooked up. She acknowledged that she did things she shouldn’t have, but she never did anything with malicious intent. She’s reached out to Khloé and Kylie, but they haven’t been open to sitting down with her yet. Also, I want Jada Pinkett Smith to be my mom.
UPDATE: Khloé has already responded to Jordyn’s interview with the below tweet:
Why are you lying @jordynwoods ?? If you’re going to try and save yourself by going public, INSTEAD OF CALLING ME PRIVATELY TO APOLOGIZE FIRST, at least be HONEST about your story. BTW, You ARE the reason my family broke up!
— Khloé (@khloekardashian) March 1, 2019
“Why are you lying @jordynwoods ??” she writes. “If you’re going to try and save yourself by going public, INSTEAD OF CALLING ME PRIVATELY TO APOLOGIZE FIRST, at least be HONEST about your story. BTW, You ARE the reason my family broke up!” YEESH. Safe to say Khloé isn’t buying Jordyn’s story.
What do you all think? Do you believe Tristan gave Jordyn a peck on the lips? Or do you think there’s more to this story?
UPDATE #2: Finally, more than a week after the initial scandal broke, we are finally getting an acknowledgment from Khloé Kardashian that Tristan Thompson is equally responsible for what transpired (or didn’t transpire) between him and Jordyn. In a new tweet she fired off, Kardashian wrote:
Tristan is equally to blame but Tristan is the father of my child. Regardless of what he does to me I won’t do that to my daughter. He has been addressing this situation PRIVATELY. If Tristan were to lie publicly about what conspired, then yes I would address him publicly as well
— Khloé (@khloekardashian) March 1, 2019
“Tristan is equally to blame but Tristan is the father of my child. Regardless of what he does to me I won’t do that to my daughter. He has been addressing this situation PRIVATELY. If Tristan were to lie publicly about what conspired, then yes I would address him publicly as well,” she said. Completely wrong choice in wording aside, this is officially EXTREMELY messy. We probably will never know the truth of what actually happened.
What do you think? Do you think Jordyn and Tristan hooked up, or it was just a peck on the lips?
