The Best & Worst Dressed Celebs At This Year’s Met Gala
We’ve made it to the first Monday of May, folks… Happy Met Gala Day! My favorite ~charity event~ of the year. (Personally, I’m still recovering from those grainy clips of Ariana Grande’s DIVINE performance at the 2024 Met Gala.) If you don’t have $75,000 dollars to drop on a ticket, shame on you for not supporting The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. I kid, I kid. Mere peasants like you and I can livestream the event via Vogue‘s website or YouTube, thank god.
Late last year, Vogue revealed that the 2025 exhibition is titled “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” and draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book, Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The dress code, “Tailed for You,” puts Black fashion — and specifically Black dandyism — front and center, which is major.
What is dandyism, you ask? “It’s a sartorial style that asks questions about identity, representation, mobility – race, class, gender, sexuality and power,” Monica explained to The Guardian during a recent interview. Black style has long been a driving force behind mainstream fashion, so it’s about time for a theme like this one. (Now, am I concerned about all the cultural appropriation that is definitely about to occur? Yes, very.)
The gala has some pretty iconic co-chairs this year: Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams, Lebron James (an “honorary” co-chair), and the Met Gala queen herself, Anna Wintour. Also, a ton of legends are gracing the Met steps tonight — Zendaya, Bad Bunny, Lupita Nyong’o, and more are in attendance!
