Even though the Katy Cats’ fearless leader/Orlando Bloom’s overly generous wife, Katy Perry, is the elder millennial pop diva receiving the Video Vanguard honor tonight, the internet was just as abuzz at the prospect of Taylor Swift showing up to the VMAs. Which makes sense given the professional friend/friendship bracelet collector was nominated for a whopping TEN Video Music Awards, including Video Of The Year, Artist Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best Pop Video. Honestly, with a shoutout this large by the crazy kids at MTV it would’ve been awkward if Taylor didn’t show up, so it’s a good thing she and those trademark beachy-waved bangs made an appearance. TBF, she did have a busy week after she decided to give a belated endorsement of Kamala Harris under scrutiny of her friendship with Brittany Mahomes.
Even though normally where the Tortured Poet goes, Mr. Taylor Swift follows, Travis wasn’t able to make it because of his NFL schedule. Aww how sad bb has to work, but at least he and his superior brother Jason were eagerly rooting for TSwift to sweep tonight, allowing her the opportunity break Beyoncé’s all-time record of copping 30 VMAs. When Taylor does inevitably win VOTY again, I’m sure would’ve been be v sweet to have those big ol’ tight-end arms around her to keep her calm, given what infamously happened with Kanye West the first time she won. Here’s a recap of what happened with Taylor Swift at the 2024 VMAs.
Did Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce Attend the VMAs?
The internet’s most powerful mafia, Swiftie Nation, was hoping, wishing, and praying Tayvis would grace the world with their presence on the VMA red carpet. I personally thought there was no Taylor way would let her adoring fans down, and was frankly more curious if she was going to show in a red lip or not. Travis and whatever weird hat he planned couldn’t make it, but Taylor opted to wear a bumble bee-colored Vermont Flannel with a Project Runway treatment.
What awards did Taylor Swift win at the VMAS?
ONE OF MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE DUOS!!
Congratulations to @taylorswift13 & @PostMalone for taking home the #VMA for Best Collaboration 🎤 pic.twitter.com/VmTfP6ynm1— MTV (@MTV) September 12, 2024
Taylor started the night by winning Best Collaboration with Post Malone for “Fortnite.” In her acceptance speech, she acknowledged the ceremony was taking place on the tragic memorial holiday of 9/11 and that oh so polite “Austin” refuses to stop calling her “ma’am.” Taylor was nominated for ten awards for the 2024 VMAs. Those awards include: Video Of The Year, Artist Of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Pop Video, Best Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Visual Effects, and Best Artist Direction. Her biggest competitor for the night was her pal Postie, who is featured on the song “Fortnite,” for which the majority of Taylor’s award nominations are honoring. Post Malone himself was nominated nine times, including for his song “I Had Some Help” with Morgan Wallen.
