To the surprise of literally no one, Benny Blanco has formally put a ring on his rare beauty of a girlfriend, Selena Gomez. After months of speculation the couple might have already become fiances, it’s now confirmed Benny and Selena are officially engaged, which means that Selenetors are free and clear to rock their Benny + Selena 4ever merch in celebration. Since the duo became attached at the hip in 2023, and Selena stood 10 toes down for her man, her man, her man regardless of the chatter she may be moving too fast, an engagement seemed imminent.
Now that one is def happening, I’m just curious which Disney alums are going to be rubbing elbows with Lil Dicky eating canapes made from Chef Selena’s cookbook (did you forget about her random HBO cooking show because I sure didn’t). I’m perpetually thirsty for celebrity wedding dress content, and so now I can’t stop picturing Mrs. Blanco traipsing down the aisle in a white lacy number like the one she wore in Monte Carlo. Before I get ahead of myself: Here’s everything we know about Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco’s engagement.
Selena and Benny broke the happy news to her adoring Instagram public on December 11 (she is still mind-blowingly the third followed account in the world, y’all). Selena shared a series of adorable photos with the caption “forever begins now.”
Selena’s engagement to Benny was sealed with a very large marquise diamond with a diamond band. I’d expect nothing less than custom extravagance considering Selena’s diamond ring with a “B” for Benny only six months into their relationship was valued to be around $3K.
Selena and Benny have been dating for just over a year. In December of 2023, rumors started picking up that the secret crush Selena had alluded to on Selena + Chef was 36-year-old music producer Benny Blanco, who has written hits for Katy Perry, Rihanna, Ed Sheeran, and yes Justin Bieber. When IG account Popfactions posted the theory in a now-deleted post, Selena commented “Facts.” Selena then started sharing lovey-dovey pics of herself and Benny, whom she’d already been seeing for six months, cementing to the world that the rumor was real. After her famously die-hard stans started questioning if Benny was right for her on their fan accounts (oh how I love frightening stan culture), Selena had plenty of time to pop off in their Instagram comments. On December 7, 2023, she called Benny her “absolute everything in her heart,” “the best thing that’s ever happened to [her]. The end,” and “still better than anyone [she’s] ever been with. Facts.” She even went as far as advising stans who couldn’t accept her new love to see themselves out of the fandom. She loves him like a love song baby, okay!!! Selena hard launched Benny to grid on December 14, 2023, and they’ve been sharing kissing selfies, A-list date nights, and simp-heavy memes on the regs ever since.
They worked on music together years before there ever was a relationship, starting with “Same Old Love” in 2015, which Benny is credited as a producer on. Benny was actually friends with Justin Bieber (who I’m certain would like to be excluded from this narrative), which is part of the reason Selenators didn’t trust Benny for their GRWM queen. Benny and Selena continued with “I Can’t Get Enough” in 2019 and “Single Soon” in 2023. Things were rumored to get romantic around when Selena served plates full of support for Benny’s cookbook in November 2023. She later told Time Magazine she considered Benny a friend and asked him to set her up on a blind date, which is when she realized he was actually what she was looking for all along. That’s a Disney ending if I ever saw one.
