Alex Cooper On Falling Out With Former Co-Host Sofia Franklyn — And Other Major Reveals In 'Call Her Alex'

Usually, Alex Cooper is the one making other people tell all, but she’s turned the focus onto herself for her latest project. In her new Hulu docuseries Call Her Alex, which dropped on June 10, the Call Her Daddy host lets the Daddy Gang in on some of the most intimate parts of her life. Alex is a woman who got famous broadcasting blow job tips on her podcast, so you’d think she’s already used to being vulnerable. But Call Her Alex takes things to a new level.

After the doc premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 8, Alex wrote a thank you post about the experience on her Instagram, and she gave a special shout-out to the series’ director, Ry Russo-Young. She wrote, “For the entirety of my career I’ve always been the one in the driver seat, sharing my stories on my own terms…so to relinquish control to you was one of the most terrifying and rewarding experiences of my life. Thank you for pushing me and creating something that I am beyond proud of to share with the world. This entire experience allowed me to grow and heal in ways I never imagined.”

Alex shared a lot in the docuseries. Here are all the biggest reveals from Call Her Alex.

Call Her Alex Biggest Reveals

Sexual Harassment Allegations

Definitely, the biggest revelation from Call Her Alex is Alex’s discussion of the alleged sexual harassment she experienced while she was a student at Boston University. In the documentary, she explains that her soccer coach, Nancy Feldman, harassed her during her sophomore year of school. She says her coach “really starting to fixate on me, way more than any other teammate of mine, and it was confusing.”

“[It] was all based in her wanting to know who I was dating, her making comments about my body and her always wanting to be alone with me,” Alex says in the doc. She says the coach later kicked her off the team.

Alex also discussed the allegations during the June 10 episode of Call Her Daddy. She said it took her a decade to come out with this story in part because she was “afraid of retaliation.”

“I also worried people would downplay or dismiss the severity of what I experienced because the abuse wasn’t physical,” she said. “And with a podcast that focuses on empowering women, I felt shame that my abuser happened to be a woman.”

But when Alex learned other women had similar experiences at Boston University, she decided to come forward with her story.

Falling Out With Sofia Franklyn

Alex reveals that even though it seemed like she and her original Call Her Daddy co-host, Sofia Franklyn, were close, they actually had only known each other for a few months before beginning work on the podcast together. “It was the classic, ‘You think you see something online, and people genuinely believe you’re like sisters, but our relationship was so awful,'” Alex says.

Then, at the end of their original three-year contract with Barstool Sports, they were offered a new deal: stay for one more year and then gain full ownership of the deal. Apparently, Alex was happy to take the deal, but Sofia didn’t want it, and so they parted ways. Of course, we only hear Alex’s side of the story in the doc, so who knows how Sofia thought the whole thing went down.

Teased For Being A Redhead

The doc shows a lot of home videos, including ones where we see Alex’s natural red hair color. Apparently, she was bullied for being a redhead, as well as for having a small frame. That led to her dyeing her hair and becoming the iconic blonde we know her as today.

Her Parents Have Always Been Supportive

Even with some of Alex’s more, uh, risqué content, her parents have always supported her. They show up throughout the doc to talk about how they’ve always encouraged her, even when other relatives may have been thrown off by her candor.

Wedding With Matt Kaplan

Fans get to see some never-before-seen footage from Alex’s wedding to hubby Matt Kaplan, including their very sweet and emotional vows to each other.

Among all the home videos, there’s a lot of footage of her making movies in her family’s basement. And TBH, it’s genuinely sweet to see Alex doing the thing she loves, even at a young age. That’s our daddy!
