I do not wanna discuss how many times I just watched that Bridgerton mirror scene, so don’t ask me. As literally just a girl who’s passionate about Ariana Grande, smut, and Polin, I don’t think I’ll ever recover from these five or so minutes. Yes, I’m referring to the part in episode 5 where Colin tells Penelope that her hair “cascades” and her eyes “shine” before touching her lips and tracing her neck and shoulder with his fingers. (Screaming again.) He’s a man written by a woman, so of course, he takes a moment to emphasize that he won’t do anything without her consent. I’m aware that’s the barest of minimums, but it still adds to the magic for me, I’m sorry.
Other girls might be looking for a man in finance, 6’5″, blue eyes, but I’m looking for a Regency Era man who’s gonna take off my clothes in front of a mirror, tell me to lie down, and then passionately make love to me as Ariana’s “pov” (Strings Version) plays in the background. Is that really too much to ask? BRB, deleting Hinge and raising my standards until I’m inevitably forced to re-download and lower my expectations again. In a recent interview with Stylist, Nicola alluded to the mirror scene and opened up about getting naked for it. “There’s one scene where I’m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice,” she revealed. The Irish queen added, “It just felt like the biggest ‘fuck you’ to all the conversation surrounding my body; it was amazingly empowering.” Fuck yessss. Apparently, she even “specifically asked for certain lines and moments to be included.” Knowing that info makes the scene even more iconic.
Filming that intimate moment was also a positive experience for Luke. During a Vanity Fair interview, the actor was asked about when his and Nicola’s support for each other was most valuable, and his response was when they filmed the mirror scene. “I remember my focus was supporting Nic and making sure that she felt comfortable on set and in that environment,” he recalled. “I just wanted her to feel supported and safe.” Why is he actually perfect. Luke continued, “We swapped the next day, and then it was my turn, and I completely got that from her.” I ship these two in real life as well, just saying.
