Now that the general public is blessed AF to have Wicked: Part One available to stream around the clock, I have to assume every human with a wifi connection has been reliving the magic that is officially the biggest movie musical of all time. The performances by the wickedly talented, one and only Adele Dazeem cast led by Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, and Jonathan Bailey, have garnered a handful of nominations at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards Show. The Jon Chu blockbuster hit received a striking total of four nominations to be exact, which is actually a little bit low of a headcount if you ask me and every single person in the theatre who balled their eyes out to Elphaba’s dance at the Oz Dust Ballroom, but whatever.

Actually, Mr. Chu not receiving the best director is not “whatever,” it’s a crime that should be punishable by a chase by flying monkeys, but alas is it really an award show without a painful snub or two? Now that the 2025 Golden Globes are finally here, Wicked has exited press tour mode and gracefully flown into awards season mode. The results of the season are going to cause a lot of perfectly melodic conversation about the loudest (in a fantastic way) movie of last year. How many Golden Globes did Wicked win? Here’s a look at Wicked’s wins and snubs from the 2025 awards show.

Wicked Golden Globes Wins & Snubs

SNUB: Best Performance By A Female Actor In A Supporting Role In Any Motion Picture: Ariana Grande Lost For Wicked

Ariana Grande-Butera was nominated up against Felicity Jones (The Brutalist), Isabella Rossellini (Conclave), Margaret Qualley (The Substance), Selena Gomez (Emilia Pérez), and Zoe Saldaña (Emilia Pérez). Zoe took the award home over the princess of pop for her musical magic in Jacques Audiard’s drama.

Cynthia Erivo didn’t get the Globe, but, hey, there’s always the Oscars! Cynthia was nominated alongside Amy Adams (Nightbitch), Demi Moore (The Substance), Karla Sofìa Gascón (Emilia Pérez), Mikey Madison (Anora), and Zendaya (Challengers). Demi snagged the win on January 5.

Wicked won!!! I know that’s right. The film was in competition with Alien: Romulus, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Deadpool & Wolverine, Gladiator II, Inside Out 2, The Wild Robot, and Twisters.

In one of the biggest honors of the night, Wicked was nominated in addition to A Real Pain, Anora, Challengers, Emilia Pérez, and The Substance. In the end, the Emilia Pérez sweep of the night could not be beaten.

Did Jon Chu win Best Director at the 2025 Golden Globes?

Jon Chu was not nominated for a Golden Globe in 2025, at least not for directing the Broadway adaptation. Brady Corbet (The Brutalist), Coralie Fargeat (The Substance), Edward Berger (Conclave), Jacques Audiard (Emilia Pérez), Payal Kapadia (All We Imagine as Light), and Sean Baker (Anora) were up for the honor.
