Goop Is Low-Key Being Shady About Megan Markle’s New Show

I’m starting to think the mean streets of Montecito are not for the weak, with all the backlash to Meghan Markle’s lifestyle and cooking show, With Love, Meghan. In addition to the tabloids and Twitter trolls making Meggy Megs public enemy number one simply for getting excited over a fruit platter, a new hater has entered the mix. The dig comes from Tracy Anderson, who you may know for her famous exercise “method” that gets the girlies tight and right (even if it looks like said girlies are being controlled by a Voodoo doll to the untrained eye during the workout).

Tracy was hosting content to promote her new recipe available at Goop Kitchen (the local restaurant chain created by Gwyneth Paltrow’s crunchy company of the same name) when Meghan Markle was evidently on her mind, at least that’s what the comment section thinks. What did Tracy Anderson say about Meghan Markle in a Goop Kitchen video? I’m breaking down the subtle shade below.

Tracy Anderson’s Comments About Meghan Markle

Tracy started a video demoing her new menu item by saying, “Hi, I’m Tracy Anderson, welcome to my actual kitchen.” That may seem like an innocent sentence, but many fans took it to be an obvious dig at Meghan Markle because Meghan has been taking heat for filming a TV show (pause for dramatic effect) on a TV set instead of her actual home… Any lifestyle host or entertainment professional vouch for the fact that is not only normal but industry standard to film in a staged home or standing set (instead of your literal home) for a number of pretty common sense reasons like lighting, other production needs, and safety, but I digress.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Comments About Meghan Markle

Why are Tracy’s comments ruffling feathers when so many people are clearly not into Meghan’s show? For one, Tracy Anderson and Goop’s brand is built on uplifting women. In fact, Gwyneth Paltrow herself recently defended Meghan Markle’s entry into the lifestyle space in an interview with Vanity Fair,  sharing that in light of “noise about certain women in the culture, I do have, always, a strong instinct to stand up for them.” Gwyneth said her mom, the iconic Blythe Danner, taught her to see “other women as friends, not foes.” So even though she’s only met Meghan once (who she described as “lovely”), Gwyneth made it clear she wouldn’t make her feel unwelcome like Martha Stewart once did by telling the press Gwyneth was an unconfident “movie star” who was “trying to be Marth Stewart.”

On top of that, the level of hate surrounding Meghan’s silly little cooking show (and literal existence since marrying her husband) could’ve been a good reason for Tracy to skip the easy opportunity to dunk on a queen — excuse me, Princess — when she’s already being made to feel down.

If an apology is coming, let’s hope it’s a little wiser than pretending the be unaware of how the reference would be taken or just trying to be funny. (Good rule of thumb, when landing a joke, if “try” is in the equation, maybe skip that one).
