Can We Talk About 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' Peach Scene That Just Changed Lives?

After watching the cinematic masterpiece that is The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3 episode 5 (Conrad’s POV), I would like to issue some formal apologies. Belly, I’m sorry for hating on you and saying you have no personality, though that’s still very true. Jeremiah, I’m sorry for not realizing that your utter tomfoolery was actually instrumental in bringing us to this very blessed peach scene moment. And Conrad, I have nothing to apologize for because I never doubted your greatness for a second, king.

The Peach Scene, much like The Carriage Scene in Bridgerton or The Strip Tease Scene in Gossip Girl, is a work of art that will be adored and rewatched for generations to come. Folks, I am still recovering from that transcendent two and a half minutes of Belly eating two peaches as Conrad stares at her like he wants to devour her, and “Wild Horses” by The Rolling Stones gets progressively louder in the background. The golden hour glow? Conrad’s white T-shirt? The red flowers in the background? The close-ups of their faces? Him intimately wiping her chin with his shirt??? I have never before said The Summer I Turned Pretty and awards in the same sentence, but I may have to start doing that now.

We simply must discuss the beginning of the end of bellyjere, a truly epic moment for Team Conrad: the Summer I Turned Pretty peach scene!

The Summer I Turned Pretty Peach Scene

Throughout the entire episode, Jeremiah reveals why he doesn’t deserve to be within 100 feet of Belly, and Conrad shows why he’s her Prince Charming, her soulmate if you will. Jeremiah’s ditching wedding prep for work (at his dad’s company), yelling at her about $750 mirror glaze, cocoa, and flavor profiles, and low-key forcing her to do the ceremony at his dad’s club and invite random strangers. Conrad’s the one presenting affordable and creative solutions for the wedding, taking Belly to Michaels for the pre-July 4th sale, making sure she’s well-fed, and of course, stopping to let her pick peaches.

Can we talk about the symbolism of the peach scene? After they see the peach sign, Belly says they don’t have to go because they already passed it, but Conrad immediately does a U-turn. He’s practically yelling, “It’s not too late to be with me again!” Belly raves over the first peach she eats and declares it a “perfect peach.” She says she’s scared to eat another because it won’t be as good, and Conrad wants to “test” that theory. Why? Because it’s a metaphor, and he’s saying that the second time they try a relationship will be as perfect or even better than the first time! And surprise, surprise… Belly’s second peach does not disappoint.
